There has got to be a way to automate ore gathering
I've got thousands of stone and wood, but now everything's taking 10-30 ingots and there has got to be a better way to get ore than shuttling 60 ingots worth back at a time at 2 miles per hour, which will last three or four crafts at best.

If there isn't an ore generation building already and I just don't see/have it yet, then there definitely should be.

doesn't work when playing solo, if the base is too far off main base all pals there will be "offline" until you come to the base or near the base, i have one, it produces nicely, when i'm there, but second i go do other stuff, they stuck at 0 production as always
I keep hearing this but I don't have this issue. I also play solo.

only able to carry 60, are you making sure to add enough stats into your carrying weight?
I have 650 max weight. 60 ore is 480 weight. I'm passively at about 180 from all my equipment. That's 660. I'd like to put stat points in things other than carry weight.

Use the grappling hook, as it currently doesn't care how overweight you are, or at least the limit is so high that I can use it to move around while still carrying 2000+ ingots.

So I started a new world with friends and built our main base up near the old church in the red forest with the seven ore outcrops nearby, and now the flaws in the AI pathing are becoming apparent... Our Tombats are frequently injuring themselves and getting stressed out. They refuse to use the saunas we've built and Pals are constantly falling off cliffs and getting stuck on the large rock outcrop nearby, and worst of all is that they still aren't mining the ore. They prioritize the mining site and everything is just moving so slowly... I don't understand how you're supposed to get the massive amounts of ore required to craft anything in the mid game, let alone late game.

Set mining base with several ore deposits within the borders.

They straight up aren't mining if I'm not there. Each and every time I get back, they have at most gathered 1 ore into the chest. But if I go AFK standing at the mining base, they actively gather the resource.

I hope that eventually we'll get some unlimited ore working station -technology unlock.

That's really the only effective solution. The entire point of the mining and logging stations is to allow you to build places without trees and rocks and still get those resources, but then in the mid game when you need 100+ ingots just to build the station required to craft the new items you're unlocking, you're basically forced to build near ore outcrops, and even then you still need to be there to make it work right, because harvesting objects in the world is not run the same way at a distance as working the sites.

I'd also like a site for Paldium too, but at the very least that's easier to both grab passively (as it's all over the ground) and harvest large quantities of (since it's much lighter), and you don't need nearly as much of it to boot.

Paldium is needed for the highest tier Ingots, so you'll want a lot of it later on.
Its easy to get a lot by using the crusher to turn stone into Paldium.

Doesn't work on private dedicated servers either, in my experience. I tried a secondary mining base, never has ore when I visit it.

Personally I just build most of my base at my ore base.
My original main base turned into stone+ lumber + lots of farm for food stuffs.
Also doing the crushing there to get the Paldium.

Third base is a mobile base for Coal or near Legendary spawn. Currently rebuild it into a Breeding base.

option 1:

Mining base, make your second base at iron nodes, few places with 6-8 nodes close. Top tip are indeed breed anubis, 1 to use in your own party and others for mining/handywork and storing stuff. They are the best for the job.

option 2:

catch a digtoise (turtle), craft his belt, and put him in your party. Now simply mine ore with him, it's like 30 seconds per ore node, so you get lots of ore just by a little manual labor. (i do this everythime i find sulphur nodes, works perfectly.
Up your weight rating and carry Cativas in your party.

I have 1000 weight and four Cativas + Flying mount. I use Lily's Spear to mine and can harvest an ore node in under ten seconds. Can mine about three and a half nodes before I get close to my 1200 weight limit.

if you have your server set to solo and not multiplayer the game shuts down completely and stops all progress. make it multiplayer, change it to private by invite/code only. now your pals will always be working as the server progress keeps going even when you have logged off.

... and now I've hit refined metal and also need large amounts of coal. That means I've got to put a base out in the desert where all the coal is (because there are no fast travel points within 250m of the desert for some reason) and shuttle that back to base... that leaves only one base point you can actually choose the location of; the other two are locked in to get resources that are tedious to haul back.

I guess a world setting to multiply carry capacity would also help with this, because the biggest problem with ore and coal that Paldium doesn't have (even ignoring the fact you can grind stone for it) is that it's so heavy you can only carry a few dozen at a time which makes collecting large amounts a massive pain.

also i play solo and my base is far from the mine spots and they still mine.

That's my ore/coal base that's impervious to attacks so I've got a ranch set up there too for milk, honey and eggs. Five or six coal nodes and six or seven ore nodes.
