Does the game not pause when you hit escape? (+rant about enemy mechanics)
So, I was playing in Singleplayer mode or at least what I thought was singleplayer mode, and I wanted to look something up on the wiki, so I hit escape to bring up the main menu and alt-tabbed out to look at wiki.

I was standing in my base at the time, specifically the room where I had my crafting stuff -- machines and chests. I spent a couple minutes trying to look something up there, and when I tabbed back to the game, I was half dead, and there was a spike slime in my base which I have NO idea how it got there because I purposefully removed every bit of slime floor I could find anywhere near my base, and somehow it was able to navigate several twists and turns to find the room I was standing in, and then uprooted several machines and chests which was annoying AF to replace it all.

Is there no way to pause this game while you're playing it, then, even if you're the only player in the world? There should be a way to pause the game without having to exit entirely.

Also, what's with mob AI? Does everything nearby beeline straight to you even if you are well out of Line of Sight? Enemies should only pursue you if they've entered your line of sight. Otherwise it just gets ridiculous when everything homes in on you just because you happen to exist somewhere nearby.

And also, having monsters target player-placed items is just annoying... could we get a toggle for that, to turn it off? Minecraft does this, it allows you to turn destructive mob actions off (it even calls it "Mob Griefing" because that's what it is and many players HATE that BS). Or at the very least, make it so that mobs can't uproot chests, because I don't want a single slime that meandered its way through a mazy base to find me, deciding to drop 50+ items on the ground because it hit a couple treasure chests on purpose just to troll me.

- yes it pauses, but im assuming you accidentally hit it more than once... though i have noticed the game sometimes doesnt lose focus while on another monitor or "window", had several times where i moved my mouse to second monitor (without pausing/hitting esc) and the game was still playing and character doing stuff while im using my mouse and keyboard outside of the game.

only way i have found to force the game to lose focus (it works sometimes without doing this) is to hit the windows key, then the game losses focus and wont take input feedback.

- supposedly, mobs can "smell" you, you supposedly leave a pheromone trail, not only will they track you yourself, but they will track and raid your base, which is why i now not only build a wall around my base, but i also dig a moat around my base, leaving no way of enemies reach it...

and the only thing i have within reach of them is a "train stations" i build around the map for pit stops and loot dumps, before i bring everything back to base, not including my main station near my base, which is covered in and around with spike traps and acid slime (yellow stuff).

- enemies taking out placable items (storage chests and everything else) is part of the raiding and attacking anything player related....

but to mention, i havent had much (only a few things like tracks) be taken up by enemies in the areas outside of my base, so far lol.

i dont mind things being un-placed, but i do mind when stuff plain disappears because of it.... because as far as i know, items cant be destroyed, yet i have seen some stuff just simply vanish.

one good reason to always keep "backups" of your game saves, i always copy my game saves and move them to another folder to replace the save if anything goes wrong, be it in-game issues, corrupt saves, ect..

I don't know what these games' love affair is with "raider mechanics" ... I mean, Terraria has the goblin invasions, which are all good and all, but the only enemy they had that could destroy player-placed items (by destroy, I mean uproot) were the clowns, and they realized just how annoying these enemies were, and how people would use only certain blocks to prevent this mechanic and just did away with it entirely.

But every top-down game similar to this, where you're able to build has raider mechanics, and I always end up turning those off when possible. No, I don't want monsters raiding my base and destroying everything I built. If I wanted BS like that, I'd play PvP .... but... I don't play PvP because I'm simply not interested in that kind of thing.

I did eventually build a stone wall the entire way around the base, but that just feels... I don't know, like a hassle, because if I ever need to expand, that'll be annoying to deal with. Again, to reference another game, Terraria had a better idea: townsfolk would ward off the spawning of hostile enemies nearby because hostile enemies would just end up getting killed so they would avoid large groups of people except under special circumstances (when they have greater numbers themselves).

i dunno, im still learning this game, bought it maybe a month ago and put like 200+ hours in.

i personally dont like them coming to my base either, not a fun mechanic at all.

even worse when there is barely any info in-game or outside of the game to be found.

i have already packed up my hordings and buildings and moved to a "new world", untouched by my "new" hands lol..., atm i need to work past scarlet ore, it doesnt seem to be enough to beat the wilderness boss, but was fine for the 5 before it :cqlol:

im fully set back up, albeit "better" knowing more than i did before, with also less missing terrain.... much less, even filling in space with all the dirt i have no use for...

surprisingly... for a game about mining, you sure dont use much of the main thing you mine... the terrain lol, im now using dirt in the place of bridges, so when im exploring i just pull out my bag of dirt and throw it across the chasm, leaving me able to cross anything.

What raider mechanic is so frustrating?

Spike traps are great to farm any mobs, hell, they even work on some boss's. Building a walled base is so easy and fast and its so easy and fast to break a constructed placed wall or anything.

Sure, some mobs will dig through walls but they don't seem to be near the player starting Core so thats not a problem. And forward outpost bases are defendable with the different traps and turrets.

Plus, if things are that tough use a shovel and dig a hole, you can even let it fill up with water. Only a jumping creature or boss can cross that, and then only if its not wide or walled.

As I unlocked better crafting tables I kept tearing down and expanding my base until I was just the right size for all my shiny junk and stuff, didn't feel hard or anything.

Good luck.

I literally hit Escape and then Alt+Tab to tab to a browser window.

When I tabbed back to the game, it was apparently still running the whole time.

Talking about having mobs attacking your base, especially when they are capable of destroying blocks, in general in these kinds of games.

It's just annoying, IMO. /shrug

So, now that you know it works does it still not pause when you do it correctly?
