Agent 64: Spies Never Die

Agent 64: Spies Never Die

Cypher System
Does anybody else have a problem with this damn cypher system? I don't recall it being mentioned or shown anywhere and it's actually annoyed me so much it just ruins the flow of the campaign for me. It feels like it was forced in there to bloat time which I don't understand because it was actually so good until it was becoming a noticeable barrier just trying to enjoy myself on easy.

The only thing In can think of is they are trying to avoid people beating it within the 2 hour time limit to avoid refunds yet funny enough it's the sole reason why I'm done with it.

I am not a huge fan of the pacing interruption either. Stopping my run to grind out Masks and then do the side missions it unlocked was not great, would have preferred them as a purely side-activity instead of being part of the main path.
I think what makes it extra annoying is many of us have played the first 2 levels to death waiting for this release. I was excited to sit down and play the rest of the game, but instead I've just sat and replayed the same 2 levels again, one new one, and then been told I either need to play the first 2 levels again or the one I just completed.

Really killed the vibe and I've switched it off for the night. I hope it's changed.
yep, it's a really bad system, it gatekeeps you from moving forward. i've spoken in another post about this as well. It's a terrible system. Really does need removing from stopping you play the main game properly. Keep the Cyphers but have it as medals to collect, an achievement, or things that unlocks a cheat system to play with.

Currently it stops you from playing the game in a flow from start to finish. You have to go back and repeat older levels to move forward. It's doesn't need to be that way at all the game is so good and people will make it last. I know i will. But this system outright stops me from playing how i want to play normally.
Thank god, I thought I was the only one. I'm not trying to be a negative nancy but it was just so noticeable it just killed the flow and bored me having to replay the first level like 4 times in a hour.
It's the only thing I hate about the game. I wish the cyphers were used to buy bonuses or extras, not forced on us for progression. I really considered refunding once I realized I couldn't play through the game on agent fully, and then secret, and then 64. You have to mix them up, and do the side bonus contracts just to be allowed to continue the story. It's insanely dumb.
agree - i stopped playing the game.
Yeah, it doesn't really make sense to me either. Some levels can be a slog even on Secret Agent (like the one where you have to run around the museum stealing the art pieces), so I would rather have finished the game first before delving into the more challenging stuff.
Yes, exactly my problem. Why do I have to switch between difficulty levels to play the campaign? I'm about ready to return it.
the dev needs to change this horrid system, it just doesn't work one bit. The whole flow of the game is broken from this gatekeeping mechanic. So much so that i've and many others stopped playing it.

The Cyphers really need to be used as medals or used to unlock playable characters, skins, cheat modes. Not gatekeep the campaign.
No issues, but then again I play games to have fun so I already have more than enough of them since I am actually enjoying the game by playing the contracts, etc.
yeah i dont like it either
beat the game and got the cyphers fast
but still annoying system

It's really funny how the new 007 game by complete accident of it being a product of the Hitman devs fixes this exact issue where you don't need to do any of that side content to just run through the main plot.

It is really sad to ever see AAA slop creators do something better than indie devs. Even if by accident :lunar2019laughingpig:

I would say they had a tie on the Denuvo/EAC thing, but only if Agent 64 gets rid of EAC two months or so from now.
I'm not really a fan of it. Why lock chapters behind collectables? It would be better to have it as a side activity, which could unlock something fun like weapon camos or character skins or something like that. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the idea, I just wish you could complete the chapters without a silly block. Just let us play the game at our pace instead of locking us out of content because we don't have enough of a certain item. I do love this game though, it's for sure a game of the year contender.
I thought this was gonna be bad when I saw people complaining on it here, but unlocking act 2 just takes beating 2 levels on agent and one on super agent. I did all of the difficulties and the contracts anyways (because it's fun), just to realize I only needed 4 of the 24 cyphers you can get up to that point if I wanted to unlock act 2 early.

Yall are whiny babies.
