I tend to agree with you. I feel like a game like this is ripe for having a bunch of awesome achievements. The current ones are pretty barebones and are either way too easy or way too hard. There should've at least been separate achievements for beating the game on Agent / Secret Agent / 64 Agent difficulty
there should be Achievements for:
Shooting masks and unlocking challenges
Finishing each tier of challenges
killing 1007 enemies
killing 100 enemies with whatever weapon (preferably all of them, you can make the handguns less, like 25 or 50)
shot-gunning 50 slappers
slapping 25 enemies
getting 64 headshots
Killing 3 enemies right after a reload (make it like 10 second window)
Co-op Campaign 1-4 completed with friend
Blowing up the helicopter
blowing yourself up
Become first place in online match
Capture 20 zones
Capture 10 briefcases
Finish 20 objectives

Still have more. I need to finish the game.

Achievements requiring other players in games that are mostly played single player are the worst.

They basically become unobtainable when the game dies off and will more often than not boil down to forum/discord posts of people asking for help to cheese them and obtain them as fast/easily as possible.
I think "Collect at least # of Cyphers" (where it's maybe 3/4 of the max) would be a simple achievement to add. That would encourage getting more Cyphers than needed for story progression.
OG didn't need this stuff.
Unlock levels and cheats, have fun with MP. Done.

i'll never understand the 'give me a purpose' trend.

increases longevity of the game especially if there are some multiplayer achievements people will play just because of that and we get more lobbies and people playing online.
I want the game to continue to live.

True, N64/PSX era games managed to keep players involved with their games before gamer profiles were a thing. 6th gen consoles kinda started with in-game completion but was still a per game basis.

I think Microsoft (then later Sony and Valve) assumed that "gamers" needed bragging rights on their profile or something (like the number of Gs or Platinum'd games) and show their e-male member...

I also suspect AAA devs not wanting to make efforts to get players to have challenge runs or replay their games.

These and DLCs are also why cheat codes died out from games as well (when it was mostly for fun).

You know that people still played Doom and Mario 64 without any achievements, right?

Rareware's games had a huge longevity without any achievement and we saw Goldeneye and Perfect Dark speedruns for many years.

Multiplayer achievements are bad because once the servers are down you can no longer get them anymore.
