The focus is on a refined single-player experience, with no multiplayer or cooperative modes planned at the moment.

Game is meant to be a single player game first and foremost with no MP plans at this time.

They don't have to?
There are plenty of other multiplayers to play if you are looking for that.
But I see the appeal (even though I strictly play singleplayer only).
Maybe years later, once they finish singleplayer, the game could have larger maps with lots more manors, and AI opponents. And then multiplayer coop players could spawn in various parts of map - build up their realm, negotiate, trade and fight each other, like in Stronghold games.
Just make it so modders could have a go and perhaps we could have that in the future.
