We desperately need boss memories in elden ring
I ran a pretty decent quality build in preparation for shadow of the erdtree, with the intention of being able to test out as many new weapons as possible when the DLC finally drops. Since the goal of the build is weapon variety it has gotten me in the mood to test out a bunch of weapons from the base game I never used before, but one huge problem is that I don't actually have anything to *use* the weapons on, I'm kinda done with the base game for now and you can only kill bosses once. The closest you can really get to weapon testing is whacking a troll a few times and looking at the numbers that pop up.

I just recently beat sekiro so the obvious answer that comes to mind is memories, in that game you only have one weapon and one playstyle, so the most you can really get out of a boss rematch is experience, but there are so many applications in the soulsborne games considering just how much build variety there is. After all, shadow of the erdtree is going to have a power up mechanic for beating bosses which was specifically stated to be like the prayer bead mechanic from sekiro, so maybe they could borrow a few other elements from sekiro while they're at it, this seems like the perfect time to do it

ng+ is not a good solutions since the refights would be to avoid playing the whole game again just so i can fight daddy godfrey. and the sewer mogh is not the same as the real one.

Well yes, you'd need to reach Godfrey again. You can just make a manual save there though, and reload it to replay him as much as you want. It's not an ideal solution, but it works.

I just meant the normal ol' Omens wandering around. They're tanky enough to be able to test different builds out on them, but they have more varied attacks than trolls or something. You can also easily tackle just one, or aggro multiple if you want to test an AoE attack.

Manual save back ups.

On Windows, type %appdata% into the search bar, go to roaming and locate a directory called EldenRing. Your save file is stored here.
Copy and paste it somewhere safe. Then, turn off steam's cloud save feature.
Now you can create a back up of your save file, fight a boss, roll back your save and congrats, it's alive again.

Yes, sort of. You just need to go into your file system, copy a couple of files to an empty folder, and paste them back in if you want to revert. It's that simple. The hard part is finding the files in the first place. There are plenty of guides around that explain how though.

1+ i remember bloodborne has calice dugeon system that is perfect for this, its great for pure fighting, to bad that fromsoftware didn't put something like that in elden, for people who enjoy build test and fighting without have to do a lot of ng+.

Well, I guess I'll have to think about backupping when I reach Malenia by the end of 2024. Thanks!

I never even needed to mess with the cloud save feature. I've only rolled back a couple of times though. The files you need are going to be a .sl2.bak and a .sl2 .

Make sure to create manual save file back ups and turn off the steam's cloud save feature anyway. Steam's cloud occasionally gets a hick up and might accidentally replace your save file with one from several weeks or months ago.

caelid has dragons that respawn with huge HP, giant dogs and birds as well.
the giant outside the secluded cell grace is literally a damage test for most youtubers showcasing weapons, as he has high health and is easy to fight.
mountain top of the giants has yeti giants and many high health enemies you can test on...

or go fight rune bears.

I save scum to fight the bosses when I like. It would certainly be better to stream line this.
