if you are just trying to solve the game, look at it like a puzzle or a platformer. the goal is to get from point A to point B using the available tools. pretty sure this is how we all play our first From game. succeed any way you can
the fanbase has a lot of masochism from experienced players that new players shouldn't worry about. one of the great things about DS/ER is that you set your own level of challenge through your play style. if you want to struggle, that's ok too, but only if it's fun
the wolves are fragile but they are a great distraction. there are tank summons that will literally play the game for you, so if you are just using wolves, then you can feel good about that if you want to
