what are the messages on the ground?
What are all the messages on the ground? Do I need to be reading this? Some look like they were written by 4 year olds.

Those messages are part of the co-op/PVP aspect of the souls series since the beginning, and something excluded from souls-like imitators. Nearly all of them are other players using a system with a limited vocabulary to try to help other players, hinder other players, or crack jokes. Some of them are ether tutorial messages, or helpful notes left by NPCs.

Some messages are tips left to help people, while others are meant to mislead people. Other messages are just comments to either congratulate your success or to warn you that the next fight is difficult. You don't have to read them, but there are many that do help if you're trying to figure out what to do.
We really need a way to toggle off player messages while still in online mode.

Especially the comments that are placed by trolls to hinder interaction with levers and other in-game mechanics. Why in the world didn't Fromsoft make an entity in the engine that could be placed in an area that hindered player comments designed to interrupt interaction in these areas? I've modeled a bunch of maps with these entities, so I know they have to be there and can prove so with areas that are off limits to summons in coop. Why are they not implemented?
I do wish there was an option to be on line and not see the messages.
I hate spoilers when exploring. And not a fan of the unhelpful ones.
They have the look of litter at a poorly abused picnicking spot. You dread what you are going to see.

You can always just not click on the messages btw

Try finger but hole
weak foe ahead
99.9% of the messages are meaningless. Best option is to ignore them and, for the love of Gwyn, never rate them. Even a poor rating is attention. And attention is what they seek. I usually play offline because a number of douche canoes have chosen to place messages at the bottom of ladders that are in key ambush spots so you end up triggering the messages instead of the prompt to interact with the ladder.

The messages just being there create spoilers. You don't have to read a message, just the placement is often a spoiler.
