Item/message confirmation popups that block input is terrible game design

Why is this outdated early 2000s era game design still being used? UX 101 is to have the least number of user input for better user experience.

The game already does the following, why do I need to confirm that I picked up an item (both in and out of combat)?

• Items that get picked up are displayed on the right side of the screen (you know the way every other game does looting UX)
  
• There is an inventory tab for recent items
  
• New items are marked in the inventory until scrolled over

This make absolutely NO sense and there is no valid justification for it, but of course every post complaining about this has these terrible arguments:

• "Just press _, it's not hard"
  
• "I like knowing what I'm picking up"
  
• "I don't want to accidentally miss that I picked something up"

Lastly, 3 years and not a single mod has been created to fix this while forum posts complaining about it get downvoted. Icing on the cake was finding that someone made a mod to add looting animations.

whats the issue here? you dont need to confirm an item pickup. press triangle, and your good.

Yeah the door just opened or stonesword key used somewhere is really bad but at least they improved the Torrent one

I mean... Maybe it's because the overwhelming vast majority of people don't care? And they would rather the devs and mod authors fix/create more important things?

I pointed out this horrible argument in my post…

1. It breaks simple common UX design
   
2. You do in fact need to confirm item pick up
   
3. Confirmations only exist for 8 year olds, 80 year olds, or “geniuses”.
   
4. The game has 4 different ways to tell a player that got a new item.

They should make everyone that even remotely defends this have to press _ an additional time. “Just press _ 10 times, and your good”

Eh I like getting to know what I picked up, I hope they don't add something like this at least not forced. And I'm sure there's a mod that'll fix it. Or at least a big gameplay mod with that as a feature, I think Convergence and Reforged fixes it

Can't be because it's a non-issue for most players and modders alike, right? It's definetely because everyone is a blind sheeple and you in particular is a noble messenger trying to deliver knowledge and truth to the unenlightened masses, yeah?

P.S.: "Bad game design" should be considered a buzzword, at this point.

steam discussions arent any better. there's no way you think a discussion board full of people clown baiting is any better then a reddit page full of people karma farming, its the same thing

ill admit its not the best design choice, but ill also say its also only an issue in fringe events, such as you rushing past everything vs fighting it.
