Uchigatana good enough?
Is this sword endgame material that I should keep upgrading or are there definitely better things that make upgrading it a waste?

It is good enough, and you will have have plenty of materials later on. By endgame the only limiting factor are the dragon stones (+25/+10).

It's endgame material for sure. Infusable Katana with good scaling. Nagakiba is also great but has slighlty high STR and DEX requirements.

It is a great sword and can easily get a player through the entire game. If you like this style of combat, consider Moonveil. Easy to get and even more powerful. :)

Note that the Uchi uses regular smithing stones and the Moonveil uses Sombers. So nothing is lost upgrading the Uchi until you get the Moonveil.

Good Luck
Have Fun! :)

it's one of the best weapons in the game, if you wanted something meatier though you could go with the nagakiba
It is the best offhand katana for two handed katana build, because it can handle ashes (unlike like malenia's hand and rivers of blood)

I always put Ash of War: Bloodhound's Step (bloody type ofc) on it

you do not have to +25 or +10 a weapon to see if you feel good with it

+24 or +9 do the job well enough , should you explore the game and play it , you will find bells to purchase upgrade items infinitly.

Moonveil is kind of an upgrade with a unique AoW thats just Unsheath but laserbeam. But that weapon requires 23int so thats pushing you into a hybrid mage melee, there are a lot of spells ingame, up to you if that sounds fun.
Clockwork 7 jul, 2024 @ 16:08
I initially replaced my starting Uchigatana when there was more somber smithing stones than regular ones (although it was still too early so I had no other katana). When I was able to upgrade it to at least +21 (after leaving Limgrave and Caelid basically), I reverted to using it and it's the only weapon I've been using ever since.

Mostly because I'm too lazy to try every other weapons but also because I like it.

It kind of surprises me that I never hear people include Uchigatana with the weapons they consider too cheesy with how powerful it is. It's pretty much exactly the same as Moonveil without the magic beam and people talk ♥♥♥♥ all the time about Moonveil users. Unsheath does massive posture damage and all katanas have native bleed so you don't even need an arcane build to get benefit from that (but it certainly helps).

My first playthrough was pretty all over the place because I didn't know what I was doing, had stats spread evenly across everything. But I mained the Uchigatana in my main hand with Moonveil in the off hand for extra bleed and maybe some magic damage for things that might be weak to it. Worked very well for most of everything. I also had Golden Halberd ready to go for horseback combat and I just like halberds anyways. And Great Stars x2 for when I needed a large blunt weapon.

In the end you will have more than enough materials to upgrade about 3 weapons on the side if you keep doing the side content, mainly mines noted with a orange circle in the map.

Uchi is definitely a good weapon though and many keep it as a sidearm for a more unique katana down the road.

Any weapon is endgame material, a poor craftsman relies on the quality of his tools

It is very versatile and light and fast with innate bleed and you can imbue it with anything as situation requires. DLC bosses are so fast you barely have a chance to attack. This thing will insert itself between or even during combos of certain bosses. Let Me Solo Her uses Uchigatana as one of the two he dual wields against Malenia. I beat Commander Gaius and Divine Beast with this. Uchigatana is also one of my options to use against Malenia. (I can use dual halberds, dual ultra great swords, dual whips, and dual katanas to beat her.)

Any weapon CAN be used for endgame. Is it one of the better ones for endgame? After using it extensively I have to say: No

Its not a bad weapon by any means, in fact its one of my favorites and I love using it, but stuff at the end of the game is often so tanky that the thing just doesn't do enough damage even when upgraded and infused properly. Or rather there are weapons that do the job much more quickly, but their requirements are much higher because of that.

I use it as my "main weapon" on a hybrid build that uses much more powerful spells. The katana can easily deal with small fries, and finish off the bigger ones after I hit them with spells.

Bare Hands included, if you're really good.

Yes. My very first character I did is Faith build with Uchi (Flame art) and it splits dimensions with Unsheathe. Did the entire DLC with it already. Anyone claiming it's not main weapon worthy has severe skill issues.
