The location of the impact is observable from a lot of places in the overworld.
If you're lost see where the guiding rays of gold emerging from sites of grace are pointing at.
They manifest in the overworld and are shown on the map as well.
Note though that several might lead you into different directions, as they most commonly indicate the location of the nearest shardbearer.
By following each you will eventually end up with all great runes and progress through the game as normal.
Storytelling and -progression is kind of different to other games (sometimes described as convoluted by others) and due to the open map less straight forward than any of the other soulsborne games.
If you get lost, go to Roundtable Hold and talk to Gideon to get intel about the remaining shardbearers.
Otherwise just try to have fun exploring as much as possible. Keep in mind, there's no rush, it's supposed to be a fun journey.
And don't worry if you don't get the full picture after one or even a second or third playthrough, as you will see things that you might have missed during prior playthroughs.
This is actually super helpful, I appreciate it. I'll head to the table and see who's left!

Piecing together the characters, their dialogues and lastly the lore of the Lands Between will only happen if you pay attention to details very closely.
Also, the creative head behind the game is known to just leave certain parts blank to encourage players drawing their own conclusion, which in return means the some bits of the lore can only be speculated about.
I really miss the prepatch map. The custom markers are kind of unnecessary now, as every single npc and event is marked on the map.
If you're in an open unknown world, you do two things first: listen to people and follow the roads. Same applies here. Don't wander aimlessly. if someone tells you something, focus on that until you get the grip of the terran.
Now you can progress. Have fun.
- Engravings give you no tactical advantage whatsoever
and
- Don't try to dampen the recoil on automatic weapons, they need that to reload properly
But you already knew those things.
Love it!
