Do people really do builds without any magic?
I understand not focusing on magic but no magic just seems like handicapping yourself. For only 12 faith you can use flame cleanse me and heal and those are both useful spells to have. Also doesn't having a empty slot where magic should be bother you?

A lot of people seem to have misunderstood my question. I understand that most people aren't using magic as their main focus but are instead hitting things with large chunks of metal. My question Is do they ONLY do that? Very useful incantations are just a few level ups away so why not use them? Wouldn't it be more convenient to have one spell that cures poison, rot, and frostbite instead of using 3 items?
You're either referring to dedicated melee with some cheap support options, or hybrid builds. The first almost everyone doing melee builds does, just because preserving boluses are a limited item (or rather the ingredients are) and its generally better to have an infinite use item or spell than rely on limited consumables.

The second, hybrid builds, I do pretty much on all of my builds, because that is fun to me. Not sure about how common it is though.

My first run was with no magic. Used my FP more for weapon arts and was a pure str build. Allowed for more endurance for better shields and armor for damage reduction. Also while heal is useful I find it really hard to use in the late game with how little breathing room bosses tend to give you.

Give a magicless build a try, one of my favorite runs was just a bog standard knight

Just a dude with his sword and shield against the world

Its quite fun

Yes. I tend toward either STR/END builds, or DEX/END builds. It is *entirely* possible to smack the dog-mess out of most enemies without magic.

so i've never done magic builds in any of the games, outside of like having black flame in ds1 and a weapon buff in 2 -- in this, i have quick and easy access to 5/10 faith/int whenever i want, just by talisman swapping.

so it's like i have this whole new set of tools to play with. know what's neat? finally being able to use force is neat.

It's not handicapping if you know exactly what you're doing and what purpose your build serves.

As of right now, I'm running "Meteoric Ore Blade" + "Horn Bow" with Enchanted Shot ("Lion Greatbow" for chonky bosses) complimented by "Misericorde" for fat crits. No magic whatsoever, just my trusty blade and a barrage of arrows.

Guess how many enemies can put up a good fight against this stuff.

healing rocks are better than heal anyway(i'm something of a healer myself), and you can swap a talisman to hit 12 faith and use flame cleanse me.... so.... yes and no?

i don't invest in spells at all for my melee builds, i do however equip a couple spells for certain special ocasions (flame cleanse me and force)

Magic makes the game too easy. There's already enough tools to make the game a cake walk.

Dark Souls used to be about overcoming challenging bosses. Nowadays it's like people just want to play the game to beat it.

Isn't the point to beat the game? Isn't that why you're overcoming bosses?

Yes, there are really people who don't use magic. Like me.
Sorcery stuff really does not interest me. Incantations are better, but it annoys me totally to handle them.
I usually also don't use any kind of other buffs aside from the physick flask. I don't buff my weapons, I don't use rune arcs, I don't eat something before a fight. It annoys me.

I just go in full meele and have fun that way.

I'm trying that but in a moment of weakness I put points into faith.

I love using force choke. Force lightning is good, but a bit overrated.

I can't use a build without magic either. For me, it is more about having variety. Elden Ring is a long game, using the same weapon and the same skills for the entire run gets stale, quick. With magic, you are getting new spells and swapping them out regularly as you play.

Wow, so many people who disrepects magic. Wanna give an opposite point of view.
I finding myself more on hybrid build. Half of the fun is figuring out how to invest points into all the different stats and still being able to handle the game. The other half is utility of incantations and tactical usage of spells.
