Is Dual Wielding light weapons just crap against certain enemy types?
I often find myself better off just using regular attacks, rather than Dual Wield attacks. A lot of enemies will swing and hit you before you can get an L1 to swing. The only DW Katana attacks I find useful at all times are jumping attacks. This seems to depend heavily on weapon type. Dual Thrusting Swords do very well against most things, but maybe not large enemies like Trolls or Golems. I don't really care much for Dual Katana moveset.

Are Dual Spears / Great Spears good all the time, I wonder? Which Dual Wields do you guys find most useful? Been making a lot of different characters and trying different stuff.

I've also noticed that L1 and R1 don't combo. In DS3, you could attack with one weapon, then follow through with both in a true combo. Doing this just resets the combo in ER. At least, it does for the weapons I've tested. Are there any that true combo between R1 and L1?

I'd like to try Dual Whips, but there's only one early whip you can get. :|

look at the damage type of a weapon is important.

piercing and slashing type is good against scaly or light armor enemies but have fun getting your attack bounce off against a stone, heavy armor or shielded enemy

striking type is opposite. to break enemy armor, very few enemies have resistance against strike. best kind of physical damage

standard is standard.

I got dual falchion and it's both the hardest and coolest.

I like dual straight swords, dual great swords, dual curved swords, dual thrusting swords, and dual daggers,

Dual straight swords are extremely good for quick attacks. They connect with both swords simultaneously when you L1, rather than the sequential strikes of dual katanas.

I just put Raptor of The Mists on a Whip and stood in-front of an enemy. Ducked under all his attacks without triggering the jump into the air. Couldn't help but find it funny as hell. I'd duck under, whip, duck under, whip. c:

Dual Wield Whips are god-tier. They may not have the highest damage, but they attack extremely fast and have ENORMOUS range, especially if you run Urumi as your primary whip, since its charge heavy attack has a unique thrusting finish that has longer range than the pike. Whips in general also have very fast charged heavies with wide sweeps, making them amazing for crowd control. Alternatively, you can pair infused Thorn Whip / Hoslow Petal Whip to have dual wield weapons that can rapidly inflict Bleed and Frostbite at the same time.

They do suffer from having absolutely awful Ash of War options (Nearly everything in the game isnt whip-compatible), but you can put Bloodhound Step on it to run circles around enemies while always being in range of your attacks, but out of range of theirs.

Dang. I gotta make a whip build.

Edit: I didn't know you could get Urumi so early. Thanks.

My main co-op file is a dual whip / sorcerer hybrid. Both whips have Bleed/Frostbite, with the main one having Bloodhound Step. I've also got a staff in my off-hand slot with a bunch of high level spells. But since staffs and whips barely weigh anything, I can also rock ultra heavyweight armor. Even better, since off-hand staffs default to the weapon art of the main hand, I can Bloodhound Step around the fight constantly, either firing off spells from a permanently safe distance or dashing in and out to proc status while still having 2,000HP and heavy armor to take a hit if something actually does manage to hit me.

So far the only enemy that has been able to defeat me as a phantom has been the Elden Ring servers disconnecting me for the 100th time. Even most invaders can't do anything if you fire off a charged Stars of Darkness and immediately rush them down with the whips. Since I'm a caster, I have plenty of FP for Bloodhound Step and they're unlikely to wear me down before I can status them to death.

Can anyone tell me if stuff in your inventory adds weight making you slow down or is it just armour?

Only the stuff you have equipped adds to your equip load (all weapon slots, armor slots, and talismans).

Dual greatswords, dual straight swords, dual daggers. The rest I don't like the powerstancing moveset.

I really like the L1 running or jump attack of double scimitars. You melt most enemies with it.
Problem are tanky and high poise enemies, which don't get interrupted. Here, it's better to work with bigger weapons or R2 (jump) attacks.
