For the record I really enjoyed 90% of this game. The encounter design of the radagon/beast fight felt like serious departure from the formula they had spent the previous 50-100 hours establishing and culminated in a let down.
That could work, I guess, but maybe they could give Torrent something else, like give him one or 2 extra mechanics that work only in this fight, in order to make it more bearable, and more epic at the same time (maybe even as a way to show Torrent's true power?... which is something I completely made up, gotta be honest, but would have been cool maybe, lol... idk)
Which is a real shame because fighting Elden Beast as a melee makes me dread the fight. Not due to difficulty but just because of how anticlimactic it is running after it.
I mean yeah, the fight as it is now does not require Torrent, but some of the boss' moves do seem like they were designed so they could be avoided with Torrent's help (for example when he makes the ring that encloses on you, and you have to run away from inside to the outside), or when the boss just runs/swims away from you for so freaking many times...
The point is, the fight right now is balanced so you can do it without Torrent, but the design of the boss looks like it maybe was originaly intended to be fought with Torrent, and if they could have let us use Torrent, then they could have rebalanced Elden Beast so it would be harder to fight on foot.
Again, this is just speculating that they wanted to put Torrent in but they couldn't...
They might have as well NOT have intended for that at all, but the way the boss is designed makes me think otherwise.
Also that is just wrong, half the time Elden Stars is faster than your sprint speed and is accompanied by the ranged sword attack causing you to slow down and roll.
