are healing spells allowed on the unspoken pvp rules?
i dueled this dude, he was polite, we both empty our crimson tears infront of eachother and start the duel, he gains the upper hand in a couple of occasions but i recover my self with some distance and heal, after running out of mana we both just duke it out with melee good ol' style, he had daggers so this put him at a mayor reach disadvantage, i end up winning with like 2 hp left, i kinda felt bad for using heal two times.

In a duel? You're not meant to heal. In an invasion do whatever you want and win by any means. There's no real etiquette though.

the thought is that since heal spells put you in a vulnerable position, being unable to move or dodge, it is fine to do them in duels. the other fella could've easily punished you during the spell.

my thought at the time was, "well he could interrupt the spell with throwables or a range attacks, so it should be fine" but now that i think about it, it was kinda cheesy of me to use heal :P

Spells are fine but in my experience people get salty anyway.

It's coming from a very old mindset. Duels and invasions aren't the same thing. A duel is meant to be a gauge of who is the better fighter. In a polite duel you can get away with one buff, an emote, and then that's it.

Yes he could have and should have interrupted the miracle. But in a duel you shouldn't be healing. But like I said, there's no such thing as pvp etiquette. You can't make people use a specific ruleset that doesn't exist in the game.

Dunno. According to this community, it seems nothing is allowed. You're not allowed to play with a controller or KB/M, just banana inputs. You're not allowed to wear anything, you're not allowed to use weapons, items, buffs, IRL prayers, your own eyes or ears, and don't you dare use more than one finger to play the damn game or you're a casual.

Serious talk though, I personally don't care. I will never heal, no matter what, because... I don't care. If it’s a duel as such, most people will empty both flasks, use Physic at start and then go at it with no use of any healing incantations. Some people do use them normally though, as they do take a bit more time to be used properly than just using a flask so there’s some actual skill in using them without getting super punished for it.

The best I got for you is, if you don't think it would be ok for other players to do it to you, don't do it yourself and uphold YOUR own etiquette while giving no ♥♥♥♥♥ whether the other person is doing so as well or not. Otherwise you'll end up like half of this forum... salty over losing to actual game mechanics (however "unbalanced" they believe them to be) because of some unspoken rules not even the devs care if you follow or not.

If they're letting you cast heal instead of punishing it then it's fair game. Just don't use Estus Flask

no form of heals should be used
FerrousAradicen Apr 23, 2022 @ 1:46pm
Any form of healing during a duel is considered dishonourable among the better parts of the duelling community, the dung eaters on the other hand say anything goes.

dont diss the dung eaters
It's a matter of debate. I don't support any form of healing during duels but the unspoken rules don't forbid the use of spells.

I don't care if someone uses an FP-dependent heal in a duel, honestly, but the general etiquette has always been "no healing of any sort" as it draws things out.

lol those rules...
i understand don't use flask
but if you are stupid enough to let the enemy cast a healign spell when they have a super long long cast then that's the opponent fault
really want to ban healing spells?

spam Prayerful Strike LOL

If youre in a duel, really the big unspoken rule is, it starts with full restrictions, and if one side breaks a restriction, then its fair game if both sides break it.

I think thats the only way to not get huffy in the long term.

That said, there are many that would say healing of any kind is dishonorable, so if you pop a heal spell, expect them to pop flasks.

Healing spell is stupidly easy to get off in any engagement. This is coming from someone that only uses cerulean flasks and needs to use the spell often.
It just takes timing and patience.
