Build choice
Hello everyone. I'm planning to restart the game because with my pure strength build (colossal weapons) i'm having a hard time with bosses that require a lot of mobility and quick striking, so i wanted to ask for opinions. I have some options that i want to try after discovering a lot of different items in game but i don't know which one to choose:

- Dex/Int build with prisoner, but what weapon would i use? Rogier's rapier?
- Pure int build: my fear with this is that it would be broken and too easy just rolling away and nuking things
- Str/int build: typical Carian Knight, the one that attracts me the most
- Str (or Dex)/Fai build: i found A LOT of items that are faith hybrid i was thinking about doing a sort of paladin build, but would it be slow like the build i had before?

I was able to come up with this ideas, any other options out there?

Keep going with your str build. You will get better

the thing about pure strength is where you lack in speed you make up for in hard hitting stagger damage, abuse jump heavy attacks. Remember that basically every enemy in this game can have its poise broken and the heavier and bigger the sword the more poise damage you will do, use that to your advantage. Theres a reason why the bosses are more mobile, its because of how they reworked stagger damage in this game. Abuse heavy attacks as much as possible.

also if you really wanna start over you dont have to make a new save, once you kill the moon queen boss she allows you to respec your character.

You know that you can re-spec in grand library?

I know i can respec but during the game i had the terrible idea to sell what i thought was not of good use so i don't have any alternatives. And i'm having a hard time with a specific boss that has a lot of poise, and they are 2, so the stagger option is not very suited for this fight. That's why i don't want to rely anymore on staggering bosses. Any advice on builds pls?

I have a templar / paladin build, it's not slow. STR + Faith focus.

Using Magma Wyrm's scale sword (B str / B faith) scaling at level +9. Enough endurance to wear heavier armor (need a lot more levels before will be able to wear heaviest armor) and enough in STR / Faith to deal a good amount of damage. Great swords, especially curved ones like the Magma Wyrm feel pretty good to use, decent range and ok attack speed.

Faith Incantations are pretty sweet especially once you add things like "flame cleanse me", "golden vow", "lightning spear" and the various damage type reducers like "magic fortification". I switch stances between 2h and sword + shield and cast the faith incantations before tough fights. I'll get more damage oriented incants as I level faith higher / progress into leyndell I think.

I'm level 75ish, 32 vigor, 30 str, 22 faith (27 w/ talisman), 27 end and the rest are Samurai baseline. Able to wear full scale armor (knight istivan), magma wyrm and lion crest heater shield and still able to mid roll. It's pretty badass and fun and I think a good step away from something niche like pure STR into something that gives you more options for how to deal with situations.

You dont have to fear that. Int doesnt scale as well as some people seem to think and if you are going pure int you'd have to dodge basically every single hit. Which will be tricky since spells have a slower animation then attacks.

paladins are so massively stat heavy. also goodluck ever doing pvp, its absolutely saturated with moonveil katana L2 spammers.

You don't have to restart, just pick a weapon you like and infuse it to Heavy using ashes of war.
Codester Mar 8, 2022 @ 5:15am
Why would you restart the game.... you can respec every single stat point in the game if you want...

He might not be to that point yet? I started off playing a greatsword shield combo that just wasn't working for me and so I restarted as an astrologer and I've been having a blast with making a Int+Faith build ever since.

Colossal weapons usually have a quick 'jab' of sorts directly after rolling and if you're crouching, learn when to use those, crouching and un-crouching to 'jab' in battle can help. And like everyone else is saying, get used to using jump attacks often for stagger damage, and heavy (charged) attacks for stagger when you're sure you have an opening (but some fights you just dont have the opportunity for heavy (charged) attacks. I manage my weight at med for mobility, so idk what to tell you if you go heavy for the poise, which makes rolling less reliable and harder to get those roll 'jabs.'

just respec. and str builds work just fine. you need to learn to use some of the new tools better. and adjust play depending on boss.

Great swords are not good with shields, only 2-handed

Well tbh i've tried a pure strength build as well .. you have to play a very certain and niche' way or the game will outright punish you. It does suck though, I know. So unless you want to adapt and spam L2 jump attacks like you're Kermit the Frog wanting to play Berserk, go another build that is to your liking. You don't even have to restart, respec is a lot better.
