WHITESCREEN+CRASH ON STARTUP (HELP)
I had preinstalled Elden Ring before it came out and was ready to play at release. when i started it it showed the little easy anti cheat window which was then followed by a whitescreen with the elden ring cursor. at first i thought that was normal because i had that a couple of times in dark souls 3, but when i saw it there it went right away and started the game fine. but in elden ring it crashed after showing the whitescreen. couldnt even see the fromsoftware logo that shows when the game usually starts. steam says i have played the game for 50 minutes, well thats all the minutes ive looked at the whitescreen since yesterday

ive tried everything in this list (maybe more i cant even remember anymore):

restarted pc
verified game files
ran game from directory as administrator
changed compatibility settings
disabled full-screen optimizations
updated nvidia drivers to 511.79 (update from 14.02.2022) (didnt work before and after)
changed resolution in launch options
installed elden ring on 3 different hard drives
checked "services.msc" to see if easy anti cheat was running properly ( there it said it was deactivated, which i changed to manual. didnt help)
installed and played another game using easy anti cheat in hopes of it being on the newest verion afterwards.
installed/uninstalled epic games launcher multiple times on different hard drives (propably has no effect on which hard drive it is but i did it anyway)
reinstalled Elden Ring on different hard drives.
checked if directx12 version was compatible or on the newest version (it is)
deactivated all antivirus software
ended all background applications in task manager

took my entire harddrive with the game installed to a friend and tried on his pc. there it was able to start. it showed the whitescreen too for a couple of seconds, but then it turned black and the game launched. I honestly hoped it wouldnt start aswell, but it sems like the problem is with my pc. i am very frustrated and sad. All help is appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

specs:
intel i7-4790 3,6 ghz
nvidia geforce gtx 1060 6GB
20gb ram
windows 10 64bit

I hear you brother. I've tried everything for hours. The only thing that got me to the menu, albeit in an unplayable state, is forcing WARP in Directx properties. Worth noting that disabling EAC makes the white screen crash way faster.

There's at least one 30 pages long thread about this issue in here, and similar amount of complains on Reddit and such. Just gotta sit this one out until a fix is released, if it ever is.

How long does refund period last?

Does your friend have a better CPU than you? I have this same problem and apparently the CPU is not good enough, have also tried every other possible fix.

you can refund as long as your purchase isnt older than 14 days and you have played less than 2 hours

i think thats also what im going to to. i was happy to see a new update this morning but if im right it was fixes about the RCE problems. i will just hope for an update every day and hope one of them fixes it before the refund period is over. it is what it is

Ive heard alot of people trying alot of stuff to get the game to run for hours and alot of people finally got the issue solved by updateing windows 10 to the latest version. you should definitly try that. the quickest way to update and skip the bs is :

just go to this microsoft webpage link and click "update now" under Windows 10 November 2021 Update.
it will download windows10upgrade.exe to your downloads folder just run that to install the updates.
here is the microsoft webpage link.

there is a single video on youtube that shows this white screen crash at launch problem and this is how he fixed it. i also heard that alot of people got the game running by doin this.

I'm a Japanese speaker, so I'll put in Japanese first, and then a machine-translated version of the same content.

I suffered from the same phenomenon. But now I can play.
In my case it was due to the Epic game launcher.
I had installed it once on my PC before and stopped using it. When I started it for the first time in a while, there was a slightly longer game launcher update.
After that, when I started Elden Ring from steam normally, I could start it like your friend's house.

I thought Epic was suspicious because I saw an article that it bought easy anti cheat.
I don't know if it will be helpful because it is in my environment, but I hope it can be started.

QUICK UPDATE FOR ANYONE THET CARES:

I got a Windows update this afternoon, it took like an hour or two, but it fixed it!!!
I dont know how, but i got the feeling to try and launch the game after the update, and you can imagine how happy i was when it unexpectedly worked.

I hope everyone still experiencing this can start playing soon!

Nvidia 1080ti
Driver: 511.79
16 GB Ram
Windows 10 21H1
OS Build 19043.1566
Overclocked CPU - NO
Overclocked GPU - NO

Ok, I would like to start off by saying that I run my PC with security in mind. I have Defender with all it's features enabled and I use a User account for regular use and an Admin account for any elevated priviledges while running on the User session. So my case might be different from some of you.

I tried Running Steam & Elden Ring as Admin while on my regular User profile, no dice.

I disabled EAC but that did not work either. I still kept seeing the Whitescreen at launch.

What eventually worked for me was signing in as the Administrative account on Windows and running the game with that session.

Now I'm trying to figure out if there is something else within the game that requieres Admin permissions and maybe that is what is causing the issue, in my case.

Hope this helps.

Hey
Right click C: drive and run Windows disk clean up tools for all temp files did the trick for me.
Cheers!

It was deleting your shader cache that fixed it. That's part of the disk cleanup, and invalid shader cache is the reason the game hangs like this.

it fixed it after validating files and play the game without steam overlay ffs
