Welcome to the eagerly awaited Halo Infinite technical preview! We are looking for feedback on specific areas and have threads dedicated to each one right here on Steam.

This thread is focused on collecting feedback on UI & Live (Battle Pass, Challenges, Store). To provide feedback on other aspects of the flight, please use the dedicated threads for each key feedback area:

The menus feel inconvenient to navigate, especially battlepass and armor hall. a huge improvement without overhauling the menu, for mouse and keyboard at least, is to highlight the tile your mouse is hovering over instead of having to click on everything or needing to use A or D. this minor change alone would make the UI significantly better.

secondly, it's disorienting to not see how much currency I have to progress in tiers on the battle pass. I had to go to the item shop repeatedly to make sure I still had spent the amount I wanted.

lastly, please please please make the description of armors, coatings, etc optional, or add it to the sides of the screen out of the way. it's disruptive to open another menu every time I click something.

It's a controller UI retrofitted for keyboard and mouse unfortunately. If you boot up some real PC games the difference is night and day

Improvements/Changes/Issues

Customization

-Double clicking the item will auto equip and right clicking will unequip
-When an item has unlocked from the battlepass, make the icons on each different categories highlight or a ping icon on the right of each category so that we can easily locate the items that where unlocked from the Battlepass.

Battlepass/Challenges

-Make the XP boost per match, not time limited
-Every match we will earn XP, not just from challenges, this way we can grind the Battlepass by simply playing even though the challenges are already completed. Let's just say a lose match will give 50 XP and a win match will give 100 XP

Color swapping can be very buggy, such as selecting another color will instead show the equipped color, or sometimes the changes for the appearance overall wouldn't save.

The UI is very clean and I didn't have trouble really navigating it, good job in that area!

The screen does flicker when settings are being changed in-game, this is really evident in firing range for simply opening the settings menu and making no modifications yet.

The battle pass should be more easily accessed, I'd say where the customization menu is located (such as holding Y/ some keyboard bind to open the menu).

the news window does somewhat cover up the Spartans that join your party before you start a match

The UI customization is awesome! More stuff like this (team colors, weapon offset, audio sliders, hud opacity, etc.) that considers the variety of players in your community is definitely the right way to go, good work!

I don't think paying for levels is a good idea.
And the when you run out of challanges you cant get XP

The menus for armor customization is a bit confusing. The horizontal style paired with every customization option being laid out side by side makes that whole menu convoluted.

I feel like XP should be earned for simply completing a match. While challenges are good, they shouldn't be the only source to progress in the season pass. I also think XP boosts shouldn't be counting down while in the menu, I think they should only be active while you're playing the game.

Convoluted is a good word to describe how it feels to do anything other than playing the game. It's all messy and inconsistent. Sometimes I can click, sometimes I can't, sometimes I need to press a key to do something where other places that doesn't work.

If I want to tinker with a setting near the bottom of one of the settings lists it's 4+ actions and a lot of scrolling to get back down there multiplied by how many times it takes for me to get the setting right. In-game is tight and crisp but menus are clunky and obtuse


For example, there are currently 3 separate and different menus to view my "challenges"
1. Click the battle pass on the "Play" tab
2. Press F to see your "Season Progress" on the "Play" tab
3. Open your battlepass (also from 3+ separate and different places: Play tab both F and R keys, Shop, Control Panel) and press E to get to the "Challenges" tab

And then for some reason I can only see the challenge timers in two of the three challenge menus? It's all very tiring

I really would like to see exp rewarded for simply completing matches and staying in queue. It feels like Overwatch's formula is really good for this sorta thing. Encourage people to just relax and play as long as they'd like while getting rewarded for contributing to the community.

That said I do like the weekly and daily challenges. I just feel like a small amount of exp should also be rewarded simply for playing.

PS The bot matches are shockingly fun. I hope the AI is able to learn and improve more with machine learning (if you guys are using that). Scanning a player's profile long-term you could even make bot setting recommendations to help players improve in deficient areas.

There's an issue with one of the Cadet coatings. That being Cade Blue, all of the basic color coatings, both cadet and recruit have the same black colored accents, while cadet blue doesn't really have any. Notably around the visor, where all cadet and recruit coatings have black trim.

In the social tab, when you select a player, the "player options" pane is shown. The status info there is laid out unintuitively, with "Online/Offline" on the left, greyed out, and grouped with other grey labels.

It can be improved by making "Status" a label for "Online/Offline", and moving "Online/Offline" to the right to be with the other info.

  • On Keyboard and Mouse, clicking on items in the customization menus defaults to inspecting rather than equipping. This results in having to click an item twice to equip which I was not expecting. There is already a prompt to inspect an item with space. Why should clicking with the mouse do the same?

  • In the Battle Pass screen, the rewards seem a bit large to me. Perhaps they could be smaller to fit more than just 9 at a time.

  • Why are consumables and time remaining on XP Boosts only accessible in the Battle Pass screen? Since XP Boost usage is in real-time even outside a match, they should be accessible from the lobby screen.

  • Capstone rewards are a great addition however, I was unaware at first that there were more weekly challenges when viewing upcoming. I was under the assumption that to complete the Capstone, I had to only complete the 3-4 challenges that are initially presented.

  • When completing/progressing multiple challenges at the end of a match, I often found it difficult to tell if progress belonged to the challenge above or below it. Maybe they could be more offset vertically from one another for better readability?.

  • There seems to be no indication of how many Challange Swaps I have on the Challenges screen. If it is on that screen then it is not visible for me.

  • I really like the addition of the Filter and Sort option. Knowing that there may be many, many more customization pieces a year or two from launch, this seems like a much-needed feature.

  • While the new Filter & Sort feature is nice, it would be even better if all the basic "solid color" coatings could be combined into one item. Upon selecting that singular coating, show a sub-menu that shows all those that belong to it, and then let us choose if we want to be just blue, red, or green. I don't see why 10 coatings should span across the screen when they are essentially just recolors of the same coating.

  • being able to inspect items to see what is required to unlock is very nice. If I see a piece of armor or coating I don't have and it looks cool, knowing just how to get it without having to rely on random chance is very appealing to me.

  • In the Body & AI menu, why are we not able to rotate our spartan? We change prostheses and body type in that menu, it would be nice to observe the changes at different angles.

  • When changing weapon offsets it would be nice to see a preview next to the sliders of what it would look like without having to pick up a weapon in game-play

  • It is unclear to me as to what the Mouse Magnetism option does. Does it just lower your sensitivity as you look at an enemy? Will the reticle follow an enemy as they move across the screen? Even if it is a very small adjustment, it would be nice to know more info than just "stickyness".

Issues I have noticed when switching between and through menus:

1. Screen Flicker
The screen flickers badly when switching between screens and menus, which is odd since it typically loads the screen just fine, but it hurts the eyes, especially when it is fairly consistent.

2. Incorrect Background Loading
A few times I have noticed the background assets on menus do not load correctly.
a) Battle pass unlocks are greyed or whited out with only the description visible.
b) Armor Hull background zooms in super far and shows a grey, metal textured screen sometimes. Sometimes your Spartan is oddly zoomed in on (and once was t-posing until a new menu was selected).
c) Moving back and forth between Customize, Play, and Battle Pass menus occasionally results in zoomed in, grey metal textured screen.

3. Unlocked Items Sometimes Unequipable
Unlocked items in the Armor Hull appear unlocked, but when clicked, take you to the default color, armor piece, etc. Clicking on and off it a few times typically solves the issue, but not always.

Need to be able to mute a player from the score screen. Most of the players I encounter don't know you have to click escape to open menu, then tab to open social, then mute from there.

The main menu option for the spartan customization (armor, ai, etc) should be available at the top of the screen while searching for a multiplayer game. Would be nice to quickly customize some stuff while searching. I realize you can go back to the main menu, while searching for a match, then open the customization, but that's a bit too clunky and too many clicks.

On ultrawide monitors (5120 x 1440 in my case), the spartan doesn't display properly in the armor hall. In particular, when you first open the armor hall up, the spartan is displayed with everything from the midpoint of the chest and higher cut off by the top of the screen. It's like the scaling that is done to accommodate the width of the screen is also being applied to the vertical direction for the rendering of the spartan, making it too large to properly fit the 1440 pixel height.
