Max Payne

Limit Framerate To...?
Unlimited framerate leads to unhelpfully short shoot dodges. What's the limit I should be setting to fix that? People have been quite vague online.

Bug problems in the game are caused by high fps, you need to fix the fps to 60.
edit:
I almost forgot, check out this guide.

I hope your negative review of the game turns into a positive one.

Well there is no absolute set limit, I've tested 120hz/fps with a 120hz screen and that worked. I've had reports about 144 also working with the proper screen.

My best guess is when the game goes over several 100's of fps the physics and triggers start to mess up.

The best indicator is the cognitti chase part of the game, if he falls inbetween the buildings when jumping over the gap or you hear the heli with bravura screaming at you but don't see it or the scene in the staircase doesn't trigger, then fps is too high.It might be more or less evident in other parts, but that stretch seem the most sensitive.

edit: ps. you might be able to get away with 200fps, i just don't know for sure, so in most cases it's just best to set it to the refresh rate of your screen, or when you have a 59.795hz screen and you use some other means than vsync set it to 59 in that case.

Thanks!
Already enjoying it more than I did before to my pleasant surprise.

Thanks. It fixed the technical issues I was having with the game (took some tinkering).

disable vsync so aiming isn't broken
then cap fps to 60 so everything else isn't broken
this is standard practice when trying to play any older game these days

if you have an nvidia card, use nvidia inspector (idk if anything similar exists for amd)

Many older games run fine beyond 60.

Beyond 60 sure, but not uncapped
I cap to 60 because 60 is my monitor refresh rate
You can cap to 120 or something, but the ultimate point is that uncapped framerate does weird things in a lot of older games

Wouldn't disabling vsync cause screen tearing?

Yes but many people don't mind.

It definitely breaks at 150, so the limit is probably between 144 and 150.
