What you _could_ do is create a new Steam library and copy the Origin copy of the game to that new library. Then, you tell Steam to preload / install to that folder. It _might_ display "Discovering existing files", and _maybe_ it will download less than 35 Gigabytes (one "Season" is usually around 5 GBs compressed).

Apex Legends stores old versions of maps alongside the updated versions, because some game modes revisit old maps. That is why full installation is ~50 GBs, and not ~20, as would be expected for 3 different maps.

Don't take a risk or you'll find yourself downloading the game while everyone else is playing.
dont really see the point in having to download the game again for steam when i already have it in origin

Same, waste of data usage.

I just did a clean install, but copy-pasting, and then verifying the cache would presumably work as well. Haven't tried it in practice though, so who knows if there is some unforeseen roadblock.

The very first thing I tried to do was copy my installed files from the origin version into the steamapps folder. It does not work. Steam will insist on downloading the whole game over again. A small price to pay to get rid of the Origin launcher, if you ask me.

That's because Steam only recognizes the pre-loaded files which are encrypted. Try doing it again once it releases.
