I understand your disappointment, and that you expected more from us. Nevertheless, we have never promised that the game would come to any specific platforms, and we always said we would make those decisions later. If my previous post in this thread raised your hopes and gave the impression that this was a sure thing, that is my fault and on me; I apologize.
As stated, the game should be playable using Proton without any special configuration necessary. Multiple users on ProtonDB report the game runs flawlessly that way.
I would add Coffee Stain (Goat simulator and Satisfactory) to the list. It seems like almost any developer who does any kind of deal with Epic sours on Linux. :-( All the more reason to despise Epic.
If you ever show up in Humble Choice, I might get to play Hades. Fingers crossed.
Proton is great, but it should never be seen as a replacement for native ports. Especially for devs/publishers with a long history of supporting Linux in previous titles, the expectation sort of builds in that direction. I can't blame one for being disappointed. I surely am.
For what it's worth, thanks for Bastion; it was an epic ride.
You must understand that we're not disappointed in a perceived broken promise, as one was never made.
We are disappointed that you stringed us along with a vague and non-committal 'maybe' statements in the form of "We plan to bring Hades to other platforms" and "We've been pleased to be able to support Linux on Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre before this, so it's good to hear from you on Hades as well!" etc.
I appreciate that the game runs in Proton, but that's a last resort FOR US, NOT YOU.
I resisted posting here as I don't really want to add negativity to what is essentially you simply stating a fact, but I felt it was necessary. You used to be a Good Guy Dev, one of us, on our side, a friend and ally. It hurts.
So I offer you a suggestion:
Maybe you would like to step up and officially support Hades for Linux when running in Proton? That would be very much appreciated as a compromise.
That said, since I have RTX cards in all my home rigs, I really haven't been able to break away from Windows. But games that are great for the hotel room, I pretty much exclusively run on Linux. If there's no hardware that absolutely requires something, that is still my preference.
Just one request then; if you don't go and natively support, would you guys at least want to test if updates don't break stuff on Proton?
I get how that wouldn't be any priority either, but having it at least included in an e-2-e test to see if it starts, the menu and input works, sounds play back etc, would already be a good thing.
Thanks for being transparant about it.
Oh well, kudos to the Proton team for at least providing a working solution even if it isn't ideal. It's kind of nuts that Proton has better compatibility for some older Windows games than Windows 10 does.
