As for Dark Omen i played it from start up to finish for one week during hot summer as teenager, it was so awesome, after that game i started collecting Warhammer Fantasy Battle and Rpg goodies.
My favourite battle was that one in the Drakenhoff castle and a short trip to Kislev.
We might get DLC's based on those old campaigns in WH3 as well - Thrones of Decay and Shadows of Change were both based on old story campaigns.
The cannon was a little lethal though, I remember the first few times I used it I got "Watch your fire!" Over and over cause I was killing my own troops hehe.
The music was pretty awesome too.
Did you ever play Shadow of the Horned Rat too? I thought that was pretty good too.
Were there not other games like dark omen? I believe i played other similar games but never managed to finish them because of the difficulty.
I remember to this very day last battle with hand of nagash himself or maybe it was dread king alone.
i liked the small scale of dark omen, as you're only a mercenary army so formations had low unit count and you could focus more on micro managing units
the only thing that felt really odd/dated in terms of mechanics was that you had to hammer space bar once units entered combat to get a combat bonus
a lot of things were similar to this game though, fire wizard with similar spells (burning head even more op in that game), matchups with unit types more or less the same and you could equip items/banners to various units
I actually thought the dispel system was something they could have easily added to TW : WH.
