comet of casandora overrated?
am i the only one that thinks that comet of casandora is one of the coolest looking spells in the game but 9 out of 10 times casting it is just way overkill using a simple thunderbolt is far more cost efficient, hits faster and deals very good damage.

The only time i could justify a comet is if the map naturally makes a choke point where the ai sends 10 stacks of units into 1 place.

Agreed.

In favour of the comet I would add that it straight up obliterates the unit it hits. So if you realy don't like one particular unit...

But in general yes, I would discribe the spell as an incredibly hard hitting, slow, overpriced, small radius, anti-infantry nuke.

It also requires the target to be held in a spot for it to work well.

Its a pretty good spell in the right situation. Sieges are where Lore of Heavens can really shine

meh, skink oracles get a free cast of it once a battle. it literally deletes any units it hits.. why not use it?

That really isnt much of an argument. Any kind of spells that is bound and costs no winds of magic should be used.

It's ok, but you have to cast it on units already commited to combat. Send some sem all small entity count unit to make enemy blob and drop comet on that. Don't bother otherwise, ai will always evade.

This is exactly why i think it is extremely situational. You need to lock the enemy into a big fight, they need enough units to make it worth it and hope they do not move away in that long loong cast time. Target it wrong or if something happens in that long cast time then you could wipe out your own units too.

Well yeah, it is situational. It's not as majority of heaven casters have other uses of skill points besides spell line, so whatever. If situation not fits you cast thunderbolt or chain lightning, simple as.

While lightning bolt is good it has quite a bit smaller AOE. If you manage to get 3-4 enemy groups in a mosh pit I'd take a comet over thunderbolt.
The comet just deletes so much.

But for single groups I will use thunderbolt on them.

the main strength of magic in most games comes from its versatility, to get the most out of it you have to select the right spell at the right time.

yes some spells will be more situational than others but on those few occasions where they are useful it can make quite an impact.
the same is true for the comet. its situational, but there are moments where it can make a huge difference.

It's good but conditional. If only targeting one unit thunderbolt is absolute more efficient for the magic cost but killing more things faster absolutely has value. Overall I would say it's relatively balanced within it's lore. Anyone who tells you to only use one spell within a lore or only use one lore because they are best in slot or whatever does not actually understand the game and are too caught up in numbers.

I can be wrong but the comet can eliminate all the war machines in an unit, while the thunder bolt no

I love it, but it's only really good for blowing up an enemy that's blobbed up on your front line. But then it almost wins you the battle in one shot.
Also good for blasting artillery, especially once your mage has their flying mount.

Underwhelming is the word I would use. It should be like a nuke but is a fart in comparison.
