Honestly, what is the bastion even for?!
Well, that is the stupiest ive seen so far in any strategy game I ever played in the last 54 years of my life.
It is so incredible stupid, that it feels as if it is implented on purpose, as a joke.
But - what is it?
Simple: the turtle gate, in possession of my beloved sister and stalwart ally, is besieged by evil Kurgans. My armies are waiting in behind, just in case the bastion gets broken. One turn later: The Kurgans are marching*through* the settlement they are just besieging and attacking my armies lying in wait.
Wait, what? They just moved *through* the bastion, despite of being at war with the owner?
Yes, they did. And did it again, the next turn.
Even the Ulthuan gates were better, since they were unpassable if the owner was at war with the passing faction. This is a joke. It can be nothing but an april fools joke! The unpassable bastion is nothing than a pretty graphic glitch with setllements as it seems.
Played the game after the new patch for 15 minutes, will go back to demon hunters now and wait until I can take this game serious.

Actually I'm pretty sure it had the same problem there.

Siege nullifies zone of control..... even on Bastion - that's why you can't siege the ulthuan gates

Not the only thing broken in WH3 ;)

I think we all want this fixed.

All cities work this way, including the Ulthuan gates. If it's under siege, it loses it's 'area of control', which means that other armies can walk past it unimpeded. It also means that a sieged city (and any Lord in the city) can't reinforce, which is a solid way to deal with multiple stacks sitting in the one location.

I agree it's ridiculous for the Bastion in particular to not prevent movement, but it's not a new issue.

Cathay is China themed and the Bastion is their great wall.

Interesting thing is: if another faction approaches the besieged bastion it'll automatically trigger a battle.

Thank you Sherlock for your deep insight.

@abyssalfury: I have over 2k hours in WHTW2 and it never was that obvious to me. Maybe because I am not an HE player

Gates now give the opportunity to intercept when an army tries moves through while its sieged and its a full siege battle to boot. The AI simply chose not to engage.

It definitely was. And yes, this shouldn't be a thing

I understand that that's obvious, but you asked "What is it?" and the answer is it's their great wall.

No I never did. I asked "What is it (even) for?" English is only my third language but nevertheless I am 100% sure that it is not the same as "what is it?"

Nevermind. As it seems, it wasn´t as stupid as I thought - the Gate was burning after the second turn, so it seems the AI attacked, lootet the Bastion and then marched through, which would make a lot of sense. It does not make sense that they did not loose a single man, though, despite the fact that I still beat the crap out of them with ease.

You did on the 4th line but I read the 5th line and you were asking that to lead into your own answer so I misunderstood. I apologize for being a jerk if i was one.
