Why not American Civil War. Instead.
Let us try something more historical again.

How about rome remastered.

On the subject of them remastering games... as much as I'd love an Empire 2, I'd settle for a remaster of Empire.
Fix all the problems and bugs
Give it mod support from day 1
Merge it with Napoleon (I don't know if anybody remembers the Napoleon announcement but it was originally supposed to retrofit with Empire)
Optimise it

And you know what? I still want my bloody uniform editor that they promised back during Empire haha.

Maybe as a Saga project but its so small in focus, like Britannia and Shogun. China is basically a continent before anyone tries that XD. Also yes America is big even if only the East coast but there would only be two factions.
China isn't "basically a continent". Plus even if you're basing that off of size alone, the US is actually bigger than China. Granted, civil war era US wasn't as big as the current US, but Han dynasty China was a fair bit smaller than current China too.

Other than that though, I'd agree. Just 2 factions, meh. Britannia and Shogun may have been smaller scale map wise but at least they had a bunch of different factions to play as.

American Civil War is possibly even MORE boring a setting for a total war game than china......so I guess we can probably expect that soon

LOL

I agree that it would be boring based on how many Total War Games we have had in the past. It just makes no sense to do something that was very similar to what we had with Total War: NAPOLEON.

Even a New Medieval Total War would be boring post TW Warhammer, unless they spice it up some. They added the Hero Mechanic with 3 Kingdoms. I suppose they could do that with a new medieval setting. This might be enough to be a success for the hardcore fans. For me you just can't top what Warhammer has done with this game design / franchise.

I am super curious what CA will do in the future if it is not a Medieval Total War with hero mechanics or some other spiced up mechanics added in.

Many have suggested a WW2 setting, but this might require some big game design changes. Hmmmmmmmm, time will tell.................

Disagree with everything you've said here except for you agreeing with me

As part of a larger game like the Total Warhammer series I could see it working, The Americas done as part of an Empire Total war style set.

I would've even liked if it was just America: i quite like civil wars and enjoy simulating them.
But i definitely draw the line at historical. Mostly because this line will be an infantry line, and not a tank line, which is clearly superior (obv if not too close, tanks should keep their distance otherwise they'll recieve the same fate as WH infantry where they're so close a single explosive can damage the entire formation; stupid infantry).

Because it is not finished yet, so it can not be a historical title.

I'd rather have a more interesting thing like a Total War: Antiquity, which could offer a lot more options.
or even Total War: Paint Dry would be better than american civil war perhaps
