Insufficient VRAM/missing font issue?
When I try to launch the game I keep getting an insufficient VRAM warning. The game launches normally and seems fairly stable but when I press Esc an error message pops up regarding a missing font or something to that effect, after which the game automatically closes. I've only played for a couple of minutes as a test run, and I'm worried that similar errors will occur at certain events and make the game unplayable. Is this due to the insufficient VRAM? I've tried online solutions but they haven't seemed to work and I'm not buying a new graphics card just to play this game. Are there any other possible fixes or should I just resort to getting an emulator instead?

Edit: Just did a test and I can confirm that the insufficient VRAM issue is only occurring for this game. I can run games that require far more resources fine for the most part so I have no idea why this game in particular is causing problems.

It's definitely not a vram issue eventhough thats what the error message says. I have a 3090 and I get this error. It's got 24GB GDDR6X.
It's looking like it might be related to a faulty installation of dotnet452 and/or xna40.

Assuming you have an Nvidia card do this.

Go to Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings. There are two tabs. One says Global Settings the other Program Settings. Click on the Program Settings Tab then click 'Add' it should pop up as Chrono Cross in recently used programs if you've just played the game. Then click add selected program.

Then in the Program Settings tab after you added it. Go down to 2. Select Preferred Graphics and select Nvidia High performance processor.

Thanks everyone. However, after seeing the negative feedback from other players, I opted to use an emulator instead in the end.
are you on windows 7 by chance?

[2336] D3D11 INFO: ID3D11Device::CreateTexture2D: Note that the resource allocation (178651136 bytes plus overhead) would use more than 128 MB of application usable memory. This is fine; D3D allows attempts to make allocations above 128 MB in the event that they may happen to succeed, however this usage is subject to hardware specific failure. D3D11 only guarantees that allocations within 128 MB are supported by all D3D11 hardware. Here, failure may only happen if the system runs out of resources. Allocations above 128 MB may fail for a couple of reasons, not only because the system is overextended, but also if the particular hardware being used does not support it. There is intentionally no supported way to report individual hardware limits on allocation sizes above 128 MB. [ STATE_CREATION INFO #107: CREATETEXTURE2D_LARGEALLOCATION]

This is from the debug layer in D3D11 and applies here. The font textures are 16K in resolution, and exceed 128 MiB in size. I might be able to fix this, but I kind of doubt it -- they're already using a hacky 4-bpc format I've never seen games use before to try to fit the font into a single texture.

The only solution might be to use Special K to replace the uncompressed enormous texture with a compressed version and lose some quality.

Sounds like a Hardware or bad install problem.

Is it actually using the Nvidia card andnot some intergrated graphics?

Yes far as know GPU 0 is nvidia geforce gtx 1650 do have have integrated graphic too but they are switched off by default on the prime applet and have no issue with other game but horizon zero dawn. Which my specs might not be high enough to run on linux, but windows they are.

Most of the games read it as my only card, had an issue awhile back with torchlight 3 trying to use my integrated graphics. but that was resolved and haven't had a problem since.

Yeah, Kaldaien is way stupid. You know, considering he made the gold standard for universal video modding across pretty much all modern PC games, there's no way he could possibly know what he's talking about.

OR... he could've possibly pulled the information from Direct3D 11 documentation, and then put it in a box to make it more easily legible against his own post. Like the expert he actually is.

Besides, how do you know he's lying? I'm curious to read about YOUR extensive knowledge on the subject. I'm curious to see YOUR universal video modding plugin.

No you are wrong. This so called modder posted unnecessary crap that seriously, literally has nothing to do with the OP.

Wow, just no! lol
Lust Apr 8, 2022 @ 4:55am
I was having this issue as well when starting the game until I did some googling and realized I was an idiot lol. I actually had my monitor plugged into my motherboard instead of the graphics card, switched the plug in spot and I no longer get that pop-up.

Same thing with the frame rate in battles, pointed my Nvidia card to the chrono cross.exe and turned on vsync and it fixed the slow down completely, now the game runs like a dream.
