I'm finding the game boring

New player, Terran pilot start, did story missions up to where you are ambushed by the Xenon and you are on your own. I tried to "explore" and did some missions like repairing stuff, removing mines etc but there is nothing else to do and it's been a while since I have found any missions to do at all, so I am just wandering aimlessly without knowing why I am even playing this game to be honest. I had more fun with No mans Sky and Spacebourne (this one is very Janky and in Early Access). So, that's it? li...

Immense game. Like Star Citizen but actually finished. I own SC and its never done. This is an excellent game. Well worth the time and money spent.

I have been with Egosoft since XBTF in 1999-2000 and their games have just gotten bigger and better with each iteration.. I thank you for the years of enjoyment and pure entertainment!!

Ah, EVE Offline, spreadsheets in Space... or, well, some people tend to call it X4. Thinking about it, the X-Series always had a kind-of stupid name which doesn't really lend itself well to marketing. Not to be confused with a "4X" Game, even though it can more and more turn into one in the later stages of a playthrough, if that's your desired playstyle.

This Game is a pretty unique Gem. A little rough around the edges, but getting oh-so-pristine as you grind down those edges through experience. After several years of updates and with multiple DLCs adding more content, I'd argue it's even more enjoyable than a modded X3 now.

Getting accustomed to all the menus and hotkeys will take some time. As will figuring out what each ship does and how all those different weapons work. The game truly gets better the more you play it, and, while you are figuring things out, the sandboxy universe will slowly take an increasingly unique shape - everything is dynamic, and in the end, until you reach a certain size, anything you do is just a minigame to keep you entertained while the universe is doing it's thing in the background! You could always just as well watch some show (or write Steam Reviews) on a second monitor whilst waiting for your automated fleets to rake in enough cash for the next expansion, treating it more like an idle game.

Speaking of things to do, most starting scenarios have you start out as a meaningless nobody. But you can work your way up to the point where you are powerful enough to leave your own mark in the universe, maybe claiming a couple sectors here or there or enticing two factions into an all-out-war whilst profiteering off both of them along the way. Once you are more accustomed to the game, you can also fully customize your game start to go through all kinds of funky scenarios or just have a swifter start in general. You can even skip story missions this way, in case you don't wanna do them again... I wouldn't blame you. :>

Compared to other games, the DLCs for this game are quite meaningful, overall roughly doubling the existing universe whilst adding even more factions, ships and ship equipment which you can partially mix and match with the existing stuff. There's no need to buy them all at once; you can easily add them into an existing save over time in order to reduce the initial complexity and cost if you want. There's still a lot of quality of life stuff getting added to the base game as well on a regular basis, such as the incredible ability to skip through the endless story dialogues you've already heard a dozen times with the space button with the upcoming 7.0 update.

The modding community for this game is pretty decent, and there's a lot of mods which help stir the game into a certain direction better matching your playing style. You can automate a lot of tedious things like sector exploration through mods. Want to pledge your allegiance to a certain faction and share their diplomatic standing, whilst having your own actions also affect theirs? There's a mod for that. Want all factions to dynamically change their diplomatic relationships over time, causing chaos through permanently shifting borders? There's a mod for that. Is the universe still too peaceful for your tastes? There are mods to heavily increase the Xenon threat or just strengthen certain factions and their economies. Want to change the dark mouse cursor that always gets lost in the dark backgrounds of space into something with more contrast? Hallelujah, there's even a mod for that!

The universe itself and most of the ships are also pretty beautiful. Just make sure not to look to closely at the samey character models whenever you are walking around a station. Bleurgh. Every Sector has its own unique background (some even come with their own music!), with star systems being visible at appropriate positions, such as the Great Reef Nebula always pointing into the direction of the Boron Homeworlds, and some accompanying lore bits you can read up if you are into that.

It's a nice basis for all kinds of wacky space-themed roleplay, be it as a trader, a space fleet admiral or a pirate... or a healthy mix of all of them. If the sheer amount of choices overwhelms you, just pick a faction and try to stick to its ships and modules, maybe even its sectors for the start - that'll severely reduce the amount of options and can also serve as a nice background story for your own faction as it grows.
