If there's any justice in this world this shall turn into an all-new Panam appreciation thread, :).
This one always confuses me. Judy is JUST as confrontational and argumentative when you first meet her, and after you've established a working/romantic relationship with her. If you say things contrary to how she thinks it should go, she often snaps and gives you attitude. But, just like Panam, depending on the context, after the snipe, they will sometimes be like "...yeah, you got a point." And she doesn't just like V because he does whatever she asks, no questions asked. She likes him because he's supported her, and helped her, in situations where, as she states, others didn't. She doesn't trust easy (just like Judy), she's guarded and reserved, and suspicious of V's motives (just like Judy), until after you've done several things for her, that are BIG things, that show you aren't doing it for the money, (just like...*gasp* Judy!) Upon doing big things like helping save Evelyn, or helping save Saul, both of them being a 3rd party the woman cares deeply for, and refusing to do it for compensation (again, an option both women have, and the choice determines if they become intimate or just biz with V), both of them soften to V's presence, express their appreciation/affection for V, and declare they have V's back, no matter what, going forward. And that's regardless of whether you romance them or not.
So I fail to see how Panam is somehow more ♥♥♥♥♥♥ than Judy. Both of them are plenty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ depending on the situation, and both of them are squishy cuddle bugs when prompted.
Yeah Panam doesn't trust or like V at first, because V flat out says "Hey I'm here at the behest of that lady you don't like, you know, Rogue?" So no kidding she'd be prickly. Just like Judy is prickly when you first get her to help you with the BD and Evelyn, because she knows it's a suicide mission. She brushes you off when you call her after the heist, and flat out hangs up on you. When you go into her office, she is instantly hostile and combative, and you have to calm her down before she agrees to RELUCTANTLY help you.
Panam isn't like that at all. She's prickly while she's trying to get her vehicle back, because she knows she's on her own, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up big time, and is looking at being hunted down by 6th Street for failing a job. Which we all know often means getting killed. She's in a bad situation from every angle, and isn't happy about it. But by the time you finish her "get my truck back" mission, she's warmed to V a LOT, drinking beers with them and doing the normal social chit chat thingy. If you are male V, you can start with the flirty flirt stuff, and she's shown to be receptive. She's playful with her banter, it's snarky but....so? I mean that is literally an archetype for a type of woman that people like. It's not like you can't choose the same level of snark for V's dialogue options. And honestly she's not really even that bad. I personally hate the "sassy ♥♥♥♥♥" trope for love interests, but Panam really never flipped my switch into disliking her as a result. Half the time her claws, when they came out, weren't directed at V, they were at Saul, or someone else, or herself, when she ends up doing something where someone else suffers as a result. She's not a ♥♥♥♥♥ for no reason, she's a passionate woman who wears her emotions on her sleeve, and judges herself very harshly when she screws up, especially when she knows her mistakes cost those she loves. Just like Judy.
When you romance her, and tell her about the chip, she's instantly like "how can I help you?" she circles the wagons of her clan to back you, and to try and find a way to save you, and doesn't hesitate to do everything she can to keep you safe.
However in order to romance Judy, you have to actively lie to her about the fact that the chip is killing you when it first comes up in her apartment. Panam doesn't shy away from the truth about your situation. She tries to find a solution. Judy doesn't offer any solutions to try and fix your problem, she just kind of replies "huh...that sucks V." Even when it comes up post-boink session with her. To be fair I feel this was content that was brutally cut out of the game, because it FEELS like Judy should've had a techy path to try and help V. But, it's not in the game, so what we end up with his an indifferent Judy, to the realization that her lover is slowly being replaced by a dead dude's engram. Panam on the other hand, sends up the Nomad Signal and literally mobilizes an army to try and help you.
So no....Panam isn't just a ♥♥♥♥♥ who likes V because he never disagrees with her. Panam, just like Judy, is a complex, multi-faceted, hot mess of a human, trying to find her way through a piece of ♥♥♥♥ city, that grinds people into mulch. They both have their flaws and strengths, and they're both some of the best actual romance stories I've played through in a video game. Not just the sex scenes, which I do think are quite beautiful and intimate, and wonderfully kinky in the case of Panam's. But just, the amount of detail they put into trying to actually capture the moment of intimacy between the 2 people. In the quiet of night, in a dark room, lit by outside ambient light. It's very touching, and effective.
I still am pissed that post Panam-boink, we don't pilot the vehicle butt nekked though, and pop out to see if the Nomads are ok, in the buff. I would've loved both of them to pop out and be like "Everyone ok?!" And Mitch and Cassie be like "whoooo girl! You cold up there? Your headlights are on high beams! You too V! You don't need to stand at attention on our account brother!" Panam, blushing "Oh shut up Cassie!" Turns to you and mutters "god I'm never gonna hear the end of this" catcalls and laughs in the background as they put their clothes on.
But alas no, V and Panam magically put their clothes back on in an instant before the fight. *sigh* Such a wonderful scene wasted.
This reason alone is all the reason I need. In this game nobody really has your back, Jonny if you treat him well and Takamura (sort of, Arasaka uses you and discards you but Taka is at least honest from the beginning).
Panam is your only source in game for actual caring and unconditional support. I ALWAYS prefer her ending, I drove off into the sunset (well, windstorm) and spent my remaining days with someone who is actually supportive and has by back. I'm going to die anyway, why not surround yourself with good people?
And I guess my other issue is that, her overall outlook on Night City, life, and the general pessimistic outlook she has when you first meet her, is pretty much exactly V's outlook for a LOT of conversations. The idea that you can't trust anyone, be ready for betrayal, Night City will eat you and spit you out....those kind of lines, V's literally said almost verbatim in other conversations. So I guess if that makes Panam a ♥♥♥♥♥, then V's one too. *shrugs*
