If you set the zombie infection mortality to 'never'...
...Does it still make you horrifically sick for a while, but you can survive it if you treat yourself well enough (disinfectant, medicine, rest and the like)? I've had a few runs die to the random scratch or bite recently and while I accept that as part of the game, I'd like to try a sort of 'kill you if you're unprepared, but you can survive if you are' scenario. Anyone got any experience with it set to that?

With zombie infection Off, any zombie wound is just a standard wound
You wont be more sick or anything
Basically, if you are not too bad, you are immortal

It is fun for a while...but it also removes the tension and intensity from the game unless you ramp all the other settings way up

Each time ive played with it, i ended disliking my character
Got the feeling he was just a fake, skilling and levelling for nothing as he was already immortal from day1

Depends on what you like doing. I never play with infection turned on because it makes first aid almost useless and I like pain I find the wound system oddly satisfying. Once we get NPCs back and they can harm us I'll turn it back on.
As noted before "Never" disables zombification. That's it. You'll want to balance that with adjustments to zombies or wound heal times to feel that same level of threat.

I think when they start tinkering with diseases and normal infections more then having just a scratch could end up being a serious threat to your character. Something I think a little more insidious because with a bite you know it's game over but with an infection? You might pull through after a week of anti-biotics or you won't. I think that is way more interesting. Going out to scavange while having a real fever puts you at serious risk of being zombie chow.

Hrm I see. Would be nice if there was a 'survivable' option to it instead of the all or nothing it is now. Maybe something for a future update? Or mod

I agree with a lot of these statements.
I don't want my character to already be infected from a bite, but I don't want it just to be a regular wound I guess. Higher infection risk unless properly treated, even then risking one? Something like that to make the first aid system more fun and allow more playstyles.
It'd be nice if PZ had more options for the sandbox, the nature of the events and what not, and not just your usual TWD zombies I guess. The only major thing you can change is their strength and walking(running) speed, really, not how they operate or function.
As has been discussed oodles of times on these forums (and on the zomboid forums), in films a bite is always fatal and that's the route that Zomboid took. I wouldn't expect less. Scratches and lacerations carry a risk but it is far less.
There however are mods that offer cures, I don't use them myself, just like Ficelle doesn't like turning off infections just doesn't feel like a risk. I'm sure someone, somwhere has made a mod that reduces bite infection risks.
Now that protection is here, I bundle up when I'm in a risk zone, Protection reduces your chance of a successful bite.
I'm always down for more flexabilitly.

i have only played the game for 6-7 days, i think it's great. but i don't currently have infection on if they improve the hit box and the idea of finding the programmed sweet spot to have buildings become transparent to see whats on the side cool, done deal. or maybe after i get better as this games non standard controls have me dying far to often.

how ever i would agree having zombie bits make you highly ill and weaken you for days when clicked to never, would be a great inclusion to the game's sandbox menu

you will still need antibiotics or you will die of same way of any bite
I think wounds like without infection turned on can still get "infected", but its just a standard infection. So you will be really sick for a while, then eventually get better (if treated properly).
In my current go through that is exactly what happened: got bitten, gotten sick, eat and slept for a while, and now feeling better.

i have that settings both on negative so bites and scratches cant kill you. but i have a hard mod to compensate that.
Airborne Infection.
so everyone have to wear a mask near Zombies cause they can infect you over the air. and if there are too many zombies, the mask loses quantity. if a zombie attacks you and rip the mask off, good luck. :D

If you set the Infection rate to never;

You will be given a bite. And your character will begin to feel nausea like usual. But, you won't get the increase in temperature, and after about 3 days, it will go away. Bite wounds are like enhanced Lacerations. They take much longer to heal.

I have the transmission off and the zombification off. Still when I get bitten, I get sick and die. I'm not near corpses. Everytime, takes less than a day.
