Solo as in singleplayer ? No not really, there's some stuff but it's (arguably) neither fun nor worthwile.
Solo as in you get matchmade with randoms, don't need a premade ? Sure, most of the game's like that. The real endgame does require a premade as it's like raids and dungeons with mechanics that warrant communication but there's community tools for LFG (and soon an ingame party finder too). But most "quickplay" missions are matchmade, and represent the majority of the content of the game.
PVP is completely skippable, you pretty much never "have to" participate for quests or events (do note that there IS old quests that predate that shift in philosophy).
It works on a paid, premium priced annual expansion model (with a season pass to boot). The free, base game is more like an unlimited free trial than a full experience.
Plenty fun.
The game is very fun at first but seasonal activities can/will feel like a grind depending if the game has worn out it's welcome for you. Good luck!
