Description
A Better Start for Long War 2
Buffed starting resource levels, research speed, building speed, and much more to begin your new campaign in LW2.

Wait did I hear that right? "Decades" I expect Central to be a bit more sheepish in telling me how long I have been away. Sure the base is new but how did we seem to lose all of our scientists and engineers? How is it there are no supplies outside of a few MRE's? And who the hell lost the mystic knowledge that allowed the Skyranger to carry more than 4 grunts into battle?!

This mod is a tongue-in-cheek EZ-button for starting off as the recently awakened Commander. A cubic crap-ton of supplies, intel, and alloys along with tweaks to that reduce research and build times assuming the XCOM staff got actually BETTER at their work instead of worse.

*This mod works at all game level difficulties.

Under The Hood
Through the update of XComGameData.ini I have head large shipment of resources along with some calibration on scalars. The starting values have been curved to the difficulty setting giving you the most at rookie level and impossible level. Here are the specific changes.
  • Starting supplies is 3000+ with intel, elerium, and alloys starting out at a 1000 each if not better.
  • Starting area supplies is 350.
  • Building and clearing scalars have been reduced to 0 to 10%
  • Research scalars is at 50%
  • Healing soldiers scalar is reduced to 10%
  • New Recruit supplies cost is reduced 90%
This mod differs from the original in that it doesn't mess with the starting number of recruits, and skyranger capacity at the start. LW2's setting are better in these cases.

DIY Modding
If there are aspects of this mod that you hate or things you wished were just a bit more buffed, then open the file(s) below in a text editor and scan through settings. My mods are nothing more than configuration file overrides with no coding. A word of caution about editing the downloaded files in your workshop directory. If I ever update this mod your changes will get replaced with a fresh copy of my files. I recommend copying the modified file to another folder that you can swap back in after an update.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\859904129\Config\XComGameData.ini
This is assuming your running windows and steamapps are on your c:\ drive.

For those who are interested I have put out "A Better Start" for Chimera Squad.

If you have XCS then give this a try. I'll be coming out with a Lite version and then A Better Agent and A Better Arsenal all with Lite versions here soon.

It's been a while since I cracked open or even used this version. Now with LW for WOTC (LWOTC) you might want to check out my new version for LWOTC (link above in the table).

I'll still check on it though.

Good point and an interesting perspective. Thanks MountedCombat

I don't think that the starting issues you mentioned actually go against the lore.
IMO, Central wasn't sheepish about the "gone for decades" thing because he was flipping tired of being the one to deal with this crap, so he wanted to give you the flat sitrep and let you take the reins.
All scientists and engineers were lost because only a few made it out of the base when it fell in the first game, and of those members only Shen's daughter was still in contact.
There was almost nothing in the way of supplies because the fight seemed impossible, so only a few small groups were willing to fund XCOM's attempts at continuing survival almost all of which was then used on finding you.
-All research and such was lost when the aliens took the base and seized the servers - not starting with the ability to take 6 people, a simple *seating arrangement issue,* is a little odd though.

another thought is to set the scalar to 2 or 3 and see if your injured soldiers don't get flagged gravely.
Scuba Steve  [author] Feb 10, 2018 @ 3:24pm
Then another guess is they are looking at the time it takes to heal the soldier to flag it as gravely injurred.

No, this is the only A Better mod that I'm running, and the near-instant healing is working as intended. However, I've had soldiers return with exactly one HP left, but were only listed as Slightly Wounded. I have made many of my own changes to the .ini files for LW2, but I'm pretty sure I never touched anything having to do with wounds.
