Dunkelgelb - Wehrmacht

Dunkelgelb became the standard factory paint for all German vehicles in 1943. This earth-yellow colour was intended to replace the earlier Dunkelgrau and provide a better camouflage base.

The main pigment in Dunkelgelb was ochre, a kind of iron ore. It was extremely stable and did not fade. As a natural pigment, it was also prone to some variation. This re-colouring reproduces Dunkelgelb as colour-matched by German painter Johannes Denecke.
