Bulletproof Battery

This is the SFM version of my TF2 workshop submission: The "Bulletproof Battery"


It's a makeshift minigun made from a variety of scrap parts, bolted and welded together into a serviceable minigun. The original idea was that the Heavy assembled his minigun from various pieces he salvaged from the battlefield. I moved away from this idea a bit with the second version, but it still has a few scrappier qualities, such as the shields, worn barrels, and the various pins and rivets. In order to set it apart a little bit, I made this minigun run on gasoline, rather than electricity(or magic, or whatever the other miniguns use).

Perhaps the most entertaining part of making this minigun was coming up with decal ideas. It wasn't until a friend of mine pointed out that the shields would look better with some kind of war paint that I came up with the decal idea. Since the shields are such a large canvas, they seemed like the perfect opportunity to intimidate while facing off against your enemies. From that point on, I went about making multiple decal styles, both silly and serious. I will include a decal pack in a separate submission, as well as a template decal, so you guys can make your own.

-The engine on the side has its own bone, in case you want to shake it to simulate a running motor.

-The sickle attachments are body-grouped and defaulted to off.

-The ammo box has ammunition nomenclature written on the side. It is body-grouped, and defaulted to on.

-The decals are a separate layer that is overlaid over top of the shield, in order to get that nice blending of the decal against the metal. This is body-grouped, and defaulted to off.

-The gas can and ammunition box cannot be removed. They are baked onto the model.

-The gun has trigger buttons for both revving up with minigun, and triggering the fire mechanism. These are baked in, and do not move.
