It's 6 years old at this point (before DST was even a thing) and as far as I'm concerned it is discontinued.
P.S. If you want to balance a character around HP pool size consider copying the "princess" disadvantage from musha mod. In default config she can't eat anything at all once she's fed well enough which means that after consuming her hunger pool's worth of food her "healing rate" drops/stops (unless you have a large supply of non-food healing which is much harder to obtain). Which in turn means that her small starting HP pool actually matters. For everyone else real hp pool is mostly determined by supplies.
Toughest part of don't starve is combat (imho). For which you need armor (not in your mod at all), damage (DOUBLED, OMG!), movement speed (also increased well above what the other characters can get to) and a good stack of something to keep your health up. Usually that's cooked food which you eat mid-battle.
LOW pools may make a big difference, but high ones... meh. You still need to heal back up sooner or later so it all comes down to uses of resources. Closest thing to a real disadvantage here would be the hunger rate, but even that isn't much of a problem, all it means in the end is less rot for you. Now if you halved the HEALING from food and items, THAT could be a trade-off...
