Introduction
This guide will provide you with an introduction to weapon customization in Counter Strike: Global Offensive. It will give you information on where you can find customizations and instructions on how to equip and sell them.

Customized weapons offer no gameplay advantages and are purely cosmetic.

Finding Weapons and Cases
Weapon customizations and weapon cases containing exclusive loot are granted randomly from playtime on VAC secured Community and Competitive matchmaking servers.

At the end of each match the scoreboard will display a list of players on the server who received an item drop on the right side.

There are hundreds of weapon styles to discover; each one part of a themed collection. For previews of some of the collections you can find, click here.

There are also weapon collections which are exclusive to weapon cases. In order to unlock a weapon case you require a case key, which can be purchased from within the game or from the Steam Community Market.

Within the weapon cases you have a chance to find a rare Stattrak™ weapon. These weapons have a module on the side of them which count the amount of confirmed kills you get with the weapon.

Below is an image of a skull themed MP7 with a Stattrak™ module on the side.

Each customization is also given an individual rarity and a paint quality.

Item Rarity (Listed from common to rarest)

  • Consumer grade
  • Industrial grade
  • Mil-spec
  • Restricted
  • Classified
  • Covert
  • ★ (Similar to an Unusual)

Paint Quality

  • Battle-Scarred
  • Well-Worn
  • Field-Tested
  • Minimal Wear
  • Factory New

Paint qualities are an alternative style to the paint job on the weapon.
Opening Cases
Before you can open a weapon case you need to have the corresponding key. To purchase a key for your case click on the Inventory button from the main menu of CS:GO.

From the inventory screen right click on your weapon case and click on Open.

If you don't already have the correct key for the case you'll be given the option to purchase one. This can be done by clicking on the Buy Key button. Keys don't drop, they can only be purchased.

The bottom of this page will also display the items that you have a chance to receive from the case.

Once you're done purchasing your key you will then be given the option to open the case by clicking on the Use Key button.

Once you've selected Use Key a short animation will play.

The item you received from the case will be revealed after a few seconds. To return to the Inventory screen click on Continue at the bottom.

Equipping Customizations
To equip weapon customizations that you own, click on Inventory from the main menu of CS:GO.

Locate the item you want to equip and then right click on it. From the drop menu you'll be able to select CT or T Replace which will equip the item in the loadout slot for the specified team. For weapons which are available to both teams you'll also be given the option to select Replace Both Teams.

Whenever an item is equipped it will display a blue or orange checkmark on the thumbnail indicating the team it is currently equipped on.

You can also select View Loadout Slot which will take you to the loadout screen for the weapon that you selected. From this page you're able to choose from any available weapon styles for that weapon, including the default.

The loadout page can also be accessed by clicking on Inventory from the main menu and then selecting Loadout.

Selling and Trading
Weapon customizations, weapon cases and case keys can be all be sold and purchased through the Steam Community Market. If you're unfamiliar with how to use the Steam Community Market you can read my guide or you can visit the Official Steam Market FAQ.

You're also able to sell an item on the Steam Community Market directly from your CS:GO Inventory screen. This can be done by right clicking on the item and selecting Sell on Marketplace.

Additionally, weapon customizations, weapon cases and case keys can also be traded with other players on Steam. If you're looking to post an open trade you can make a thread on the official CS:GO trading forum.

If you're unfamiliar with how to trade on Steam you can read my Beginner's Guide to Trading or you can visit the Official Steam Trading FAQ.

Weapon Contracts
Weapon Contracts allow you to combine 10 items from the same collection and of the same quality into another item of from the same collection with the next highest quality.

To do this open your Inventory, locate your weapon contract and right click on it. From the drop down menu select Open Contract.

Once you've opened the contract you'll be given a list of eligible weapons which can be used. Click on a weapon you'd like to use and choose Select for Exchange.

Once you've filled all 10 weapon slots click on Submit Contract. The 10 items placed into the box will be permanently consumed and the item you received from filling the contract will be placed into your inventory.

@Arideni Probably a glitch. I just got CS:GO, played around 10 rounds and got a drop. I'd reccommend contacting Valve Support.
