Wish I could review the game itself but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ EA once again pulls an absolute blinder by making it the most complex task in the world to just join another player's game.

The problem stems from having to use the EA launcher to get into the game. IF YOU COULD JUST DO IT ALL THROUGH STEAM THERE WOULD BE NO ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ PROBLEMS. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ like this is why EA is one of the most hated companies of all time and has the most downvoted Reddit comment in history. Bunch of WANKERS.

I recommend it because it has PROMISE and I feel it's going to be a good rendition of Locke's 001 proposal, but in its current state it would be remiss of me to call it enjoyable.

Good Stuff:
-The atmosphere is great. It's very immersive and it looks and feels harrowing, but in a good, horror-esque way.
-The map layout feels very true to an SCP facility as well. A lot of SCP games completely miss the mark and feel too synonymous with any 'base under siege' horror game, but this one does a good job at feeling unique.
-The blood red/orange lighting around the map keeps you constantly reminded of the terrifying situation you're in. I like. It keeps the mood set and there are no areas where that feeling is suddenly broken.

Bad Stuff:
-I fell through the map at one part.
-The sunrays are not clear enough to know where it is safe to walk.
-There are no saves or checkpoints which makes restarting a chore and takes away the fun factor to it. This is the main reason why I can't be bothered to play any further.
-The door mechanics are... Alienating, to say the least.

But understandably, it's still early days and the devs are still working on it, so I can't out and out say it's not worth it. Go into it with the intention of deciding whether or not this kind of atmosphere is a game you'd want to play as opposed to wanting a full-on horror experience.

The scares are good but a bit generic. The game throws you right into the deep end and you mostly have to figure it out for yourself. There's no clear progression path either so you are mostly guessing where you are going.

The father's AI is also somewhat poor and can make it nigh-impossible to keep moving and sometimes you'll end up running back to one area and unable to move forward. And then on the inverse side, he'll sometimes just stop in the middle of chasing you and get stuck. It's somehow at both extremes at the same time.

Not sure if there is a manual save option, but if there was, it wasn't very clearly highlighted, but you can imagine my disappointment when I booted the game up a second time and found all my progress had been lost. Again, if the game is manual saving, that fact needs to be pointed out more clearly. And also on that topic, the default sensitivity is WAY too high and a faff to change. You can bring it down, yes, but it automatically resets when you enter the actual game and again when you close it down and open it up again.

It's a shame because I really liked the VHS format. The creepy, ominous atmosphere was great, but really ruined by the awful gameplay mechanics and lack of autosaving. If I've missed something then I will happily come back and edit this review, but as it stands, I simply cannot carry on with this demo if my progress ends up being for nothing.

At first I thought it was quite fun, and while it still is, the platforming is awful and mixes with the mechanics like milk with paprika; it just doesn't.

The fort and cave levels in particular have sections that are just ridiculously stupid to parkour, and combining that with the fact that there are no checkpoints, the fun factor is drained out and replaced with frustration.

Either the platforming has to be made consistently simple (like it is in most parts of the game) or the mechanics have to be buffed to make it easier to actually get through the courses without trial and error.

A fantastic free game with an emotionally compelling story. Without spoiling it, I took the ending to heart and actually had to stop and think for a moment. I forgot I was even playing a game about a character.

I'm not normally a fan of walking simulators but this game is fun and free. You also actually have tasks to do which, though admittedly tedious at some points, it's hardly Death Stranding levels of walking around and doing nothing.

It's also the one time my A-Level in Philosophy & Ethics actually proved useful because I knew what the morality questions were actually saying lol.

Cancer emotes allow you to get punch/slidetackled. No creativity put into the game whatsoever, literally just a clone of Fall Guys but pay to win. Money, money, money. Just get the real deal on Epic, it's free.
