WARNING: THIS IS A POSITIVE REVIEW SINCE THERE IS NO MIX BAG OPTION

This is a game that is difficult to pin as perfect or garbage. On one hand, it's got a lot of absolutely brilliant mechanics, well put art style, great narration, diverse characters, greatly designed enemies...

But on the other hand, artificially increased gametime, overly punishing mechanics, low to none rewards for improvement, horrendous RNG, badly designed ennemies, a game that is designed not to reward best course of action but to annihilate you when you make a slight mistep.

At this point, you get why I warned you first. This game IS NOT made for everyone. The audience for this game i'd say, is those who can find pleasure in being punished heavily in the process of learning a game, because this is what it does. If you seek rewards for doing what the game wants you to do, this game is not for you since you'll get none. Progression is slow in this game, very slow. You'll get beaten countless times before starting to enjoy it.

Some games are meant to incite the player to keep going even tho they die often, like dark souls, etc. This game goes beyond that mentality. Even when you master the mechanics of the game, the core interactions, the dungeon system, the stress system, EVEN then the game still punishes you harshly, for just, well, playing.

So in summary, I won't recommend this game for most players. BUT if you seek a true hardgame, that will refine your tolerance to frustration, pain, anger, absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and rng, this game is definitely for you.

Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.

This game was my first experience at a rogue-lite (rogue-like ? I dunno the term). And BOI is it a great game.
The story is straightforward and tightly linked to Greek mythology (duh). With intent not to spoil the best parts, let’s just say the writers made a great job to set the tone, the characters and the plot. It all works with the gameplay and justifies some of it’s aspects, notably, the die, improve, die improve.

From a gameplay perspective, it is a 10/10. The environments are on point, the tones and enemies are well matched, and the art style is sublime : the attention to details is impressive. The movement mechanics are fluid and rewarding ; the boon system is really simple to get the hang of and allows for an immense variety of playstyle (tho some are more effective than others). The choice of weapon is original and even tho you could say its somewhat restricted -6 weapons total-( I personnaly think it is quite fine), the aspect of the weapons vary and can propose a totally different experience.
The Game also offers a possibility for grindind, a great hardcore mode (pact of punishment).
On a final note : the musics. The sounds are satisfying but the tracks from this game deserve every awards it got for the realisation and artstyle. The musics are DOPE. It flows with the game and bespecially the final boss Hades.

If you heard good from this game, trust it, I’ve got so few setbacks playing this it I don’t have enough to write about.

If you hesitate to buy this : Don’t hesitate, buy it. It’s a great game, fast paced, well narated, well sounded, well made all in all. Go for it.

Early Access Review
So,

It's a game based on D&D so it may be complicated to handle the system of fights, etc. BUT far from inacessible, even for a complete beginner (wich I was). The Lore is quite large and even tho you are send into the game basically like a new born, its not too hard to get familiarized.
In term of story, the early access can leave you wanting more and for me, its a good sign. It can be frustrating as of now, since there is so many threads left untied at the end of early access, the game teases you permanently. Personnaly, I find it promising. If you are unpatient tho, it will leave a bad taste.

Now for a strict gameplay perspective : its an early access = details, little details, bigger ones are unfinished and sometimes ruin immersion (sick physics, perf issues, wanky dialogues, missing scenes) BUT, its far from unplayable, and considering you are not butthurt about it, you can enjoy the rest of the early access even with these. The flow of the game is enticing for the future as it is. There's already a lot of path you can take, in general as in details. Good or evil isn't the only thing you playthrough, there's a plethora of details that allow for a huge replayability (that's saying something) just with early access. That gives hopes for the rest.

As for the difficulty : rng can be frustrating as hell. Especially in combats. As a newbie to DND, I ragequitted many times on ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ misses, etc... But it's the nature of D&D if I understood correctly : ♥♥♥♥ happens.
Something good comes of it : it forces you (and that can't be said enough) to ADAPT and BE CAREFUL. There's randomness but there's a huge part that is your fault. Its a constant and rewarding path of improving after mistakes. You are not scott free after a mistake. But the great counterpart for that is the ingenuity you are allowed to approach any situation. A minotaur is ramming your mage? you can Force push that mf 50ft bellow and make it take a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of fall damage to save your mage's ass. Not all methods are rewarded as of now, most of them are tho. But every method you pull of after many retries is SO WORTH IT.

So, in summary, great promises, not too shaby as of patch 5. Definitely not worth 50€ in my opinion IF you are too exigent and want a full experience right away.
BUT if you are in for a great story start and want to try a game related to D&D, this is a go .

What can I say, more than all the memories everyone has of this game?

Sure, graphics are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ when you compare it to the modern days games, there's a lot of problems regarding the controls on some devices...

But still one of the best games. The atmosphere, the story, the dialogues. Everything is on point to create an exceptionnal game.

Definitely a game you want.
Full of interesting mechanics. It may be frightening at start but the more you play, the more the satisfaction you gain from improving yourself and your factory is worth it.

Maybe the most rewarding game, with a welcoming community and a constant difficulty curve.
