There is no game that I love more than Symphony of the Night. Off the top of my head it's one of the hardest games for me to explain why I even like it so much. There's so much for me to talk about from the characters, the gameplay, the music! Man the music in that game is something I can never get enough of it. Lost Painting is probably one of my favorite video game songs ever.

Due to sotn though I have a very particular taste in metroidvania games. I remember being recommended some Metroid games and when I gave them a shot I wasn’t really interested. Through that I learned I’m more of a fan of fantasy settings and the use of swords and whatnot. Being in Space with some space guns is just not the most interesting thing to me personally.

That’s what eventually led me to Team LadyBug. These dudes are great at making metroidvanias out of whatever property given to them. I found them initially though Touhou Luna Nights. This game managed to get me to still play it although it did not even have weapon variety like in Sotn.

Although it lacked things that usually would pull me in I still played this game to 99% completion. Yeah 99% because just like in Bullet hell games these bosses are HARD! And I just could beat that final boss but great game nonetheless. This game was enough to make me believe that Team Ladybug can make the types of Metroidvania games I’m looking for.

That Led me to this game in which I was more of what I was interested in.

While I didn't know anything about Record of Lodoss War I still played this game and I found it fairly interesting. I’m not going to go into detail because there ain’t much to tell and honestly I feel experiencing this game without knowing the story is the way to go here even if it isn’t something all too deep.

As a metroidvania this game is great especially for someone who prefers more of an Igavania I had such a fantastic time with this game. Something you quickly notice about this game is that its movement is great and when attacking depending on what you’re using.

There’s 3 different types of primary weapons in the game. One-handed weapons, two-handed, and throwables. One handed weapons are your standard type deal that allows you to attack in 8 directions. Two-handed weapons cannot swing in as many directions but they always attack with a giant overhead swing that makes them overall very useful especially if a two-handed weapon is the strongest you have.

Lastly as I said throwables which there were only two of that I could find. They’re your basic boomerang style weapons that are neat but not all too useful and in terms of swinging. That’s the general breakdown of the weapons but there are still different types of weapons but they’re only visual.

Something else in this game is Bows and Arrows as your secondary weapon. Bows serve as your long ranged weapon that sports different qualities depending on the bow that you have. It could range from shooting multiple arrows to having homing arrows. They’re especially helpful during later game boss fights since they can get chaotic especially when you’re upclose where you’re more likely to get hit.

Bows are also used in some puzzles to open doors or spin various gears.

Another thing this game has is magic. While its not used in the same sense that it is in Sotn, it's still something you can find and equip throughout the game.

Magic is unlocked by finding it throughout the game. They’re all equippable like items that you scroll through. Some are clearly more useful than others, especially the wind and fire magic as there are enemies that clearly take damage to one or the other.

Overall as a metroidvania style game I enjoyed it a lot and I can thoroughly recommend it. Although the start of it feels a bit slow to me personally once you start getting into the actual meat of the area you traverse through you really start to feel it all come together as a very fun game that will really push you.

The boss fights in this game is possibly one of its best qualities as it takes influence a bit from what Team LadyBug did in Luna Nights by making the bosses have some bullet hell influence on occasion which as I said earlier paired up with some weapons like your bow makes the fights all the more interesting.

There were some problems I had with the game though for example maybe I was just expected to grind but the end game areas felt a tad too difficult as I felt very weak in comparison to most of the enemies there but the bosses felt fine and pretty balance in my opinion but I also could’ve just cheesed them by using the bow.

Speaking of bosses one thing this game had that I did not like is that for the final boss you have to beat the boss beforehand again if you die due to no save in between and I wish there was a checkpoint there. You do end up learning how to quickly beat the boss easily rather fast so it's not the BIGGEST of deals but it's still annoying.

My final issue with this game which is a similar problem I have with Sotn is that there is no new game plus meaning that once you beat this game unless you haven’t played it in a while there really isn’t much of a reason to come back.

Overall this is a very fun game that I recommend a lot as aside from Bloodstained which was literally made by Igarashi this is the first metroidvania in a while that really hooked me in and I wish it released on more platforms because currently as of this video its only on PC but considering its minimum requirements I don’t think it’ll be too much of an issue for even those of you rocking a craptop.

Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth really surprised me with its quality and is a fantastic game for the price of simply 20 bucks which is honestly the perfect price for the game. Great combat, fantastic music and sprites, and just absolutely fun as hell boss fights that I would love to fight again.

In Conclusion….

Buy this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game.

(If you read this whole thing then yes I posted a whole youtube script I wrote on this game with a few minor tweaks)

Honestly When you first play this game its really fun but as you go the game starts the feel very repetitive around level 40-80 yeah, there's other characters and things like that, but most of the really cool stuff you gotta pay for and that's where I saw where people say this game is paid to win.

I honestly recommend you play the dungeons in this game the PvP is total ass unless you're level 80 and you're not fighting an Add.
