This game makes UNO's ability to destroy friendships look like a joke. Comments hinting to personal experience aside, I find this game having the potential to breathe new life into the Twitch-chat participation game -genre given just what I’ve seen from updates and community posts. While the gameplay loop of factions having only a few select unique storylines to play along through can get quite repetitive once you’ve experienced all the craze for a few goes, I find the ability for varying emotional outcomes of the group being a testament to just how captivating King of the Castle can be.

Two hours of my life I will never ask to get back, for I am extremely satisfied they went into playing this game. Going in, I already had quite the high hopes given a recommendation and mild discussion with a friend. Once I fully realized the concept, I was more than on board; Toying with alternate realities and multiple sides of the same story has always been a personal favorite when looking at the deeper concepts in various media.

The characters are charming, all seeming to meet damn near golden medium when it comes to the thin line between simplicity and complexity. Their motivations and roles are understandable, and their little quirks are present in how each tells an alternate story from their point of view. (I also love the Overlord's attitude and decision to use the word "♥♥♥♥", it seemed really out of pocket in a fun way. Löl) I would also like to note the lovely use of varying color palettes and MIDI-music to not only match each character but just breathe a little more life into an already very passionate-seeming game.

While I am personally not the biggest fan of boss fights akin to that of this game's, I do thoroughly enjoy how it pans out in its very own, cutesy fashion. The ending (which I at least got) also managed to not only satisfy my already set expectations but also surprise me in the most positive way imaginable.

My words (or lack thereof) can't give enough credit to just how much I would've been willing to pay extra given this game was all it is now but with perhaps an additional character more potential outcomes. I mean this in the best way possible, for this is some of the most divine yet simple experiences you can squeeze into an approximately two-hour game.

> B me
> Maybe like 2012
> See one of your fave YTbers at the time play the original game
> "Wow this is really cool and unique"
> Play the game
> Merciless yet quiet and peaceful exp for the most part (I never got anywhere exciting or more difficult than the surface due to being total garbage)
> B me again
> Xmas of 2015
> Get this game
> Play it with my homies
> Literally the same exp but even better due to multiple units cooperating on an open field
> Late autumn arrives
> Hound attack
> Everything you grinded on for like two days is gone
> Quit game
> "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that was fun"

Terrible 4Chan-board post -style imitation aside, this is the well-deserved multiplayer sequel to Tim Burton's wet dream as seen in two dimensions. It has stood the test of time as a game where both the developers and players are figuratively speaking butting heads for which can put more passion into what they do with it. Lacing together a style so unnervingly pleasing as this with some of the most unforgiving and merciless gameplay ever seen in a semi-popular indie game, Don’t Starve Together is an endlessly enjoyable experience with one of the most active playerbases I’ve ever seen for a Steam-release of this caliber.

As a sort-of soul brother to the universally timeless phenomenon of Minecraft, Terraria has left its footstep beside MC’s as one of the most beloved fantasy-based survival games born out of the 2010’s. With a playerbase still very actively reliving the imaginative world in various shades as built by the game, the love shows no signs of dying out, even well after the announcement of Terraria’s final update. It’s yet another cultural hallmark those spending anywhere between hundreds and thousands of hours on it will look back on with nothing but positive thoughts, the game deserving every single one of them.

When [voxel-based block sandbox] and [variety first-person shooter] have a lovechild following the events of an unforgettable night, out comes Ace of Spades. Despite feeling like somewhat of a Minecraft Fortress 2 in retrospect, the game truly held an important place in the hearts of many during the early-to-mid 2010’s, me included. It functioned as the underground go-to display for not necessarily needing to be the most original; As long as you can fuse the best elements of a few endless titles during the time, you can breathe life into what was once seen as solid gold deserving of legend status by its playerbase.

However, with the state of this game as is right now, it’s more comparable to a veteran than an active soldier out on the battlefield. This is due to it no longer being supported on more recent and up-to-date operating systems, thus decreasing the active playercount to the value of a dime. It’s painful to see such a legendary title go after all these years of love cheered its way. However, maybe it’s for the best this way as to avoid such an influential artifact from slowly fading into obscurity.

The more popular tools for microphone output manipulation on Steam come far and wide, leaving exemplary utilities such as this to outshine many. From playing music in contexts not fitted for any other output over voice chat to spamming oversaturated meme SFX, Soundpad is the go-to any and every Steam-user should weaponize when faced with a dying call.

The internet has a team of action and heist film buffs with big dreams to thank for one of – if not single-handedly – the most addictive first-person shooters associated with crimes such as grand larceny to ever scrape the face of the Earth. Comparing playing to a straight-up adrenaline administration into the forearm via needle is nothing short of saying that circles are round; The gameplay loop’s immersion, visual display’s tension-building exclamations, and speaker-shattering electronic score’s ability make one headbang their neck broken are just few of the countless examples behind what leaves one to play this game, never coming back.

This the game that has single-handedly carried Steam-profile customization since 2017. To deny Running Through Russia's impact on the achievements displayed on an average Steam-user profile is nothing short of insanity akin to some of the most infamous conspiracy theories.

Through a timeless fusion of cartoony aesthetics and laser-focused gameplay mechanics, Valve brought to the table what could easily be seen as their greatest game in any of their franchises. It also – thanks to both Valve’s own Source Filmmaker and Garry’s Mod, an endless sandbox based in the Source-engine – has left it’s massive footprint in internet culture as a whole through countless memes, pieces of art, videos, and much more. The imagination of Team Fortress 2’s community spans beyond infinity, and is on full display both in- and outside the game.

If there ever was one Valve-game I’d have to pick for a hypothetical “Hall of Fame” for games, It’d be this. Without a brink of doubt.

To put into words what Paint the Town Red has done for me in terms of creating experiences and allowing for an outlet where I can make people happier through making of content in detail is to write a piece nearly as long as the King James Bible. Due to this, I’ll try to keep it simple. I’ll say that during the period I was both an active and ambitious member of this game’s community, I made a number of online connections, found one of best in-game editors I’ve ever lied hands upon, and best of all, got to experience a piece that has officially ascended just “game” status.

Paint the Town Red might’ve always threaded that fine line between being a popular internet phenomenon played by big names and an indie passion project with two close mates pouring their hearts out, but that doesn’t stop it from being an artifact to stand the test of time.
