Coming here after L4D2, it feels just like L4D2 but with much less features and content...

But, L4D2 would not exist without a solid foundation <3

Early Access Review
As long as you don't find people who optimize the fun out of the gameplay, it's really fun. Absolutely deserved the Best With Friends Steam Award. Although, playing with randoms has its moments too.

Most interesting people I found in random lobbies:
- Hyper-energetic turk that would try to make anything a joke
- H*rny e-girl with a double jump cheat

Mild epilepsy warning - when you get covered in one of the Propulsion Gels, a shader is applied to your screen. For whatever reason, being covered in the Accelerating (orange) Gel causes your screen to have eye-straining flickering.

The good parts
Puzzles
The descriptiong wasn't lying about the requirement of knowing basics of Portal - most puzzles require you to have BIG BRAIN. You don't get introduced into the Portal basics and advanced puzzle pieces like the Aerial Pad and the Tunnel. You (obviously) need to know it beforehand, and you probably shouldn't play Portal mods before playing Portal itself. However, it does a good job of introducing their own unique components, like a Laser-Redirecting Cube Pair which teleport the beam between each other and an Air Vent that sucks you in and out. Liked these a lot!

Puzzle were pretty good overall. I gotta give it to whoever designed the puzzles - they ranged from being solved at first attempt, to me needing to brainstorm and ascend to higher planes of existence to make my way through. I also need to give a shoutout to that one puzzle on 2nd chapter (I think?). It was so hard to me that the only way I solved it was to prop-boost myself with a camera I detached from the wall. Definitely did not feel like the intended solution, but I'm way too dum to figure out what it actually was.

The visuals
Both the new and pristine chmbers and overgrown with vegetation oldchambers look really good! Althought, some levels made my old PC chug and become louder, but that one is on me. Especially loved the shots of the surface world. Never thought I'd see the surface in a Portal game...

The meh... parts
Music
Speaking of music, I love the fact that just like in Portal it's dynamically tied to your progress on the current puzzle in certain chambers. However, as much as it sounds like Portal... it just isn't quite there. I can't put my finger on what's wrong, but it sounds more alien-like rather than Portal. It could be the lack of the common leitmotif that Portal had among most of its OSTs.

Voice acting and the script
Voice acting could be... better. Stirling did a good job, but the second core you get introduced to... It's not terrible, but I definitely wouldn't react so calmly and be perfectly OK afterwards if I found out all my coworkers were dead and now I'm stuck in a SOMA-like nightmare scenario.. Not to mention how enthusiastic she sounds when describing those presentation rooms later on. The jab at her character's past ambition of becoming a voice actor also didn't help... Really, now that I think about it, most of her lines were just written poorly. I guess I can't blame a VA doing the best they can with what they were given. The closer to the ending I got the more I was rolling my eyes... And during the final battle I just felt like I was watching a Marvel movie.

Another thing, PLEASE put the character names in the subtitles. The second core says it's name like once and I instantly forgot about it. And the only reason why I can remember the first core's name is because I'm a boomer that still remembers jokes about Stirlitz.

The bad parts...
The chapter with Aperture from 70's felt... really awkward with no music whatsoever. Plus, it felt a lot more like a walking simulator than proper Portal gameplay.

In conclusion
Loved the puzzles and all the thinking the game forces you to do, everything else (the story, the characters, the sound design, the level design, etc...) ranged from pretty cool, acceptable and neat to... meh.

Words cannot explain how much I love Portal 2.

From the story, to music, characters and the puzzles. The best singleplayer story-driven game in existence, right next to Half-Life games.

A stalk reminder of Valve's bygone golden age...

Imagine leaving one of the most beloved stories on such a cliffhanger and then abandoning it until most of the original team leaves the company...

Also, funni gnome and glowing critters

Security camera goes down Terraria's hellevator, fights angel with daddy issues and wins. More at 11.
Sometimes, I'm even able to tell what is going on the screen! That's a pretty neat feature a game can have.

P.S.: This game has official bodypillow merch and bluetooth buttplug support
