Edit: My original review for this game complained about the gold/experience not registering after a match, and the unstable servers.

These issues have been rapidly fixed and compensations are under progress.

TLDR: The game has good combat that improves on chiv by alot. However, expect to relearn a few things if you're a chiv veteran.

●The game has incredibly deep combat, and alot of people see it as a development from chiv combat. However, many things are different with new mechanics, most prominently:

Swing directions: Instead of looking at the direction you want the attack to go, you look where you want the attack to come from. Getting used to this might feel a bit odd, but there is a little symbol next to your crossheir to show your current attack direction based on where you're looking.

Chambering: attacking into an attack instead of parrying, which gives more defensive options and can lead to badass back and forth chambering.

Perks: When you start customizing your own characters, you have equipment points, these allow you to choose different perks, weapons, and armor levels. This entire concept alone adds massive depth that you can't get in chiv.

Dragging is also easier to deal with, and you can't use broken tech for instant unblockable attacks.

●Progression is through customization items and different weapons, which are unlocked with gold and by leveling up. You do however get some very good default classes starting out, meaning players with custom characters wouldn't have an advantage going up against you.

●In terms of performance, I found the game very easy to run on high settings. Also based on a few friends, you should be able to get a consistant 60 fps with the minimum system requirements if you tweak the settings a little.

○My only complaint in the game's current state is the lack of a duel game mode, meaning you have to rely on people's honour in deathmatch servers to get duels.

augh I hyped up this game for myself for 4 whole months, waiting to get my hands on it just to try out the combat. It was advertised as a Player vs Player focused game with the story mode serving as a tutorial to get grips with the game. Ofcourse they managed to ♥♥♥♥ it up. How did they ♥♥♥♥ it up you ask? Well to put it shortly, they didn't make servers for all countries. So if you aren't lucky to live where they decided to make servers, I for example live in Dubai, you don't get to play online and you don't even get to play single-player unless you turn off your wifi so it doesn't try to connect to servers. Did I mention it's an infnite connecting to servers screen if there are no servers where you live?

Please no one try to defend this. It is complete and utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to advertise your game around PvP and not let players who gave you money to play it do just that. It is theft and this is one of the biggest flops I've seen in a game so far.

And even if they do add servers for all countries, I pre-ordered the game, how is it fair to make me wait to play it after other people just because I don't live where they do? Devolver Digital has disappointed me this time. I have currently around 100 minutes in the game which were spent on an infinite "connecting to servers" screen trying to get the game to connect or at least allow me to play the product I payed for.

This game is like drugs, you cant stop, you know it hurts you, and it makes you happy.
Highly immersive with amazing combat system (f#ck casters) and if you want to play online use DSCM.

Prepare your anus, for ornstein and smough will open it wider than the grand canyon....

If you see a character that can use a spear, they'll keep power attacking, light attack to defeat em. If you see a character with a sword, they'll light attack, power attack to defeat em. If you see someone with a hammer/axe they suck (unless minotaur) just spam anything, they first few hammer attacks have short range. If you see someone with guns..... Welp ggwp time to prepare your anus for spammy attacks over and over. ♥♥♥♥ YOU ALL GUN CHARACTER USERS, LEARN TO SKILL. (actually defeating them is easy, just power dash xD).
8/10 great game with really cool characters and mechanics.
The only bad thing I that you don't have all the heroes unlocked from the start (which are all unique) but you can buy any character with easy to obtain in-game currency (or buy them with real money if you suck too much to win just a few matches).

Final thing is that you can get skins, but only with real money sadly. They look sick though.

As for the game mechanics, think super smash bros on crack with weapons and awesome characters that have amazing lore (Orion is the coolest).

I'd suggest you start playing with a close range character such as the samurai. As it is very easy to dodge attacks with his teleporting dash attack.

Feels very weird in comparison to a game like terraria/starbound, and is very difficult with a very VERY slow progression path, I myself didn't enjoy it.
But I'm sure it has many fun endgame items and mechanics, as I have only played it for a short period of time. so I would recommend it if you've got the patience to deal with the unexplained beginning.
