I can genuinely say that Destiny is my *favourite* game, but as much as it hurts to say I just can't in good conscience recommend it to new players...

It's "free to play" but the content you actually have access to without any dlc is pretty limited and doesn't *nearly* do the game justice, the new light ""campaign"" is just... really really bad, leaving so many things completely unexplained and leaving it to the player to look up way too much about the game. A lot of people don't want to have to do homework to get into playing a game and destiny's in a spot right now where that's exactly what you need to do because you're left so out of the loop on the incredible lore, many game mechanics are glossed over, the enemy types are barely explained, and worst of all when you do decide that you want to buy some dlc and *actually* get into the game it can be SUPER confusing trying to figure out what to get and what it comes with.
The game needs a hook, it needs something to capture new players and pique their interest. The Red War campaign did that PERFECTLY back when d2 first went f2p and I picked it up, but that's been removed and the New Light campaign just doesn't do it...

If you do decide you want to take the plunge, here's some useful info:

- First dlc you should grab is the Witch Queen, it has the best campaign by far. get the legacy collection instead if that's on sale (which it is at the time of writing this) as that's a really good deal for what you get.
- Seasons are sold separately from dlcs and will have the more live-service side of the game, this is where a LOT of the constantly building story ends up.
- A lot of people complain about "the grind". Ignoring that it's a very expected portion of any mmo, it really isn't bad if you're just playing somewhat casually, as a lot of the core activities don't have any level requirement, and anything with no requirement will basically disable levels and place everyone on the same playing field only separated by skill and the quality of gear. Just play the game how you like and mess with new things as you happen upon them
- Pretty much all of your Glimmer as you are first starting should go into unlocking all of your subclass stuff, as the biggest power boost (and best part of the game imo) is in buildcrafting, between your sublass and armor mods you can make some really fun and wacky builds, don't be afraid to consult youtube for ideas there's no shame in using youtube builds that pique your interest, just make sure to experiment too.
- The Light Level system will feel very confusing but it's fairly simple in practice; your light level is determined by the average level of all the gear you have equipped, + some bonus level from the seasonal artifact that you'll just gain passively as you play. Every new annual dlc the level floor is raised above the previous ceiling to put everyone at an effective zero, this year's being 1600. The first 150 levels gained from there will go quickly just about via any source of loot, the next 50 will be a bit slower and you'll only get higher level gear from rewards that say either "powerful" or "pinnacle", these are in limited supply each week so once you've done all of those you gotta wait for the next weekly refresh on tuesday. The last 10 levels will be gained slowly and only from "pinnacle" rewards.
A lot of the game's activities do not use the light-level system like, at all, so don't stress about it too much until you start getting a grasp on the game and want to try the harder stuff.
- And lastly, look up MynameisByf on youtube, he has incredible lore videos that you can use to get caught up in the universe since the game does such a poor job of giving you access to that in-game, I wholly reccommend the "The Complete Story of Destiny! From origins to Shadowkeep", it's 4 hours long but well timestamped so you can take it at your own speed as you wish, Byf (also known as lore daddy) does an incredible job compiling and presenting the game's lore.

Early Access Review
It's... perfect.

I'm not gonna lie when I heard that there was gonna be another risk of rain I was hyped, but when I heard it was gonna be 3d I was worried. Transitioning 2d games to 3d has quite a history of going wrong and I didn't see how they Hopoo could possibly make something like Risk of Rain work in 3d.

And here we are, It feels just like the first game but in 3d. They did it and they did it well, good job guys I can't wait to see the final release version.

Dungeon crawling + Rhythm + Terrible music puns + Powerful drugs = hours of fun.

P.S: The Amplified dlc is actually a good buy.

Not EA/10 would reanimate again

I bought this game and tore through arcade mode in way under 2 hours, was disapointed at first but then my completionist side made me do it all 100% on hard. I found normal mode to be kinda easy (god knows how easy easy is). It was a short but fun arcade, would be cooler if there were some more random elements to it. Haven't tried co-op because >friends. And panic mode is well done, I like that the devs made sure no health dropped on hard so even if you buy the extra health tank it's only a single use cushion.

hopefully more people will start to pick this game up so there is some more fighting for spots on the leaderboards.

Maybe some more achievements too, though not sure what they would be for, just doesn't feel like there are enough considering how easy it was to get all of them in 6 hours...

My final thoughts are that this is great game, but I wouldn't personally call it worth 8 dollars... Perfect if you get it on sale but unless you got some money to burn and a boredom to squash then wait.

I had some doubts about it when i first entered the game, despite all the great reviews... But once i started playing, i just couldn't pull myself away from it. Honestly one of the best games i have ever played, it has a great mix of puzzles, story, uniques characters, replay value...

FEELS!

So if you find yourself asking the famous "should i really bu-" YES! just get it, stop thinking about it.

My rating: 10/10, would spaghetti again
