Early Access Review
It's an incredibly simple game where you place pieces of a waterside town on an uneven grid and make what you want. It's simple, it's fun, and its great to zone out to. It's not a deep experience by any stretch of the measure but its fun if you just want to relax and let your creative muscles go. Price feels a bit steep for what it is though.

I do quite like the game, it's extremely fun to play with friends as a sort of "hey lets just mess around and not take anything too seriously" sort of experience, but the amount of time you have to put into the game to get any of the super fun cards is a bit off putting, and there's so much DLC that adds to the price of the game.

Still a very enjoyable base game experience, and you can get it for really really cheap on sales as well, so it's an easy recommendation in my book.

My first M rated game when I was but a wee lad. My dad's girlfriend bought this for me out of the eye of him, and I loved it. I played it, but never beat it.
Fast foward 7 years. I wanted to get my old Playstation 2 down and play some of my old games for nostalgia.
It's broken.
I'm determined to play San Andreas again.
My birthday rolls around, I pick this up. So far I've binged 3 hours and it's just as fantastic as I remember it. Map is actually a lot smaller than my younger mind remembers it, but it's still fun nonetheless.

Oh god do I love this game. Basically tl;dr for what should be a short review, buy it. If you loved the first game, get it anytime, full price, whatever. If you haven't played the first one, PLAY THE FIRST ONE. At the most get both at the same time.

Anyway, good lord do I love this game. The soundtrack is absolutely fantastic, the gameplay is frantic and fun, and the story plays right out of a movie. Quite literally, actually. The game is told in a "fast-fowarding and rewinding a vhs tape" fashion. The story can be out of order, but by the last level you've pieced it all together. It's amazing.

So look, I'm gonna try and keep it short. Get the game. Please. If you were into the first game like I was, I bet you'll be crying by the ending. I know I was. (shameless plug for the steam awards)

So yeah, despite a few gameplay issues, this is just about my GOTY, every year.

9.5/10 at the minimum. Buy it.

I would like to start this review by stating the fact that this was the first game that I FULLY played through. Before I had good games, bad games, but I always restarted them after learning a new tip, or if somebody died, etc. So this was the first playthrough I went with all the way. Now we can begin.

I had just unlocked a new story, with a set of some of my favorite characters, so of course I reset my current game to try out this new set of characters that I was rather excited to play as!
But, as the camera started to pan into the house, I noticed it was snowing.
I got a winter start. I didn't know what to do, I had never survived to winter before! So I went about as usual, not noticing that I already had a furnace down in the bedroom. Night hit and I just did what I normally do, scavenge for materials then come back and build. But when I came back both of the people I had left at the base were ill, so I let them rest and rinse and repeat a few days.

At about Day 6, Marin became terminally ill, he was going to die. I scrounged up my tobbaco, made some cigs, and traded for some meds at the Military Outpost. But, apperantly I stayed to long, and after trading a soldier opened fire on me, hoping to get their supplies back. I ran back with the meds, albiet with Katia wounded, and was going to give them to Marin, but the other survivor, Arica, had also fallen terminally ill, and was dieing. I had to choose between Arica and Marin, and I chose Arica. She still had a chance, she could survive!
They both survived longer than expected, but Marin was constantly ill, and never did anything other than eat.

At around day 8-9, I went on a scavenging run with the now slightly better Arica, to an apartment building inhabited by a small family. I ran into the middle of the house, opened the fridge, stole everything in there, and ran out before the eldest son could shoot me. When I got back, everybody was absolutley torn at what I did, and they all sat on the floor and just stayed there, wasting a day, and a night, as they did nothing.

That night, Marin left the group, leaving a Broken Arica and a depressed Katia in his once home. I didnt have anything to do for the next 2 days-nights, so I waited.

On day 13, Arica died due to diesease, and then there was one, a heartbroken Katia. She sat on the floor all day, and did nothing. And that night, she commited suicide by cutting her wrists, and laying on her bed.

There was nobody left, the base was empty, other than the faint smell of blood.

At the end of the game, you get a runthrough of all the important events that happened, and what happened to the characters after the war, no matter if you win or lose.

As I sat and watched what happened during the game, I realized how much I would be torn if I had to do these things, and then I felt bad. I felt pity for pixels on my computer screen. They felt like real people, they had stories, and it tore at my heart. And as I read what happened to each of the people after the war, I nearly broke out in tears.
Marin took a action figure toy talked about in his bio, and left. He was never found.
In Arica's section it talked about what she might have become if she lived.
And in Katia's section, it said she couldn't take the war anymore, slit her wrists, and layed down in bed clutching her war diary, her parents also never found out what happened to her.

This War of Mine deserves all the praise it gets, as it tears at your hearts with its amazing storytelling and great gameplay. I recommend this game to the end of space and beyond.

Okay, this game is fun. It is. But there are only a few heists available with little variation, and the dlc isn't worth it. It's fun to play, but if you are in the mood to rob some banks, just buy the sequel. It has alot better variation in the heists, and the DLC is pretty fun.
The original PAYDAY was really fun when it first came out, but it has just died due to the sequel, which is infinitly better.
PAYDAY The Heist(s) gets a 7.5/10 for me.
Get the sequel. It's the same damn price.
