What happens when a racing game is made by people who are actually interested in cars. Not just a cynical marketing exercise to see how many obscure brands the developers can get licensing deals for, not a forced and unfunny linear campaign mode with a soundtrack taken out of that murdered-out decatted BMW waking up the neighborhood at 3am, and not a game whose sole existence is to showcase world-class rendered cars which you can't use in any event.

Is it perfect? No. The reset mechanic is pretty jank, the map/navigation isn't great (I understand it's for immersion but gameplay should always take precedence over immersion), and it's a little empty for now. But it's *free.*

The biggest single plaudit I can give this game is to finally represent the sense of speed properly. No game has conveyed the pucker factor of threading the needle at 280km/h as well as this since NFS Shift (2010), Blur (2010) or NFS Prostreet (2007). The atmosphere it produces is also something we haven't seen since the heady days of NFS Underground, or Juiced.

The racing genre isn't dead just yet. Car culture isn't dead yet. Here's proof.

It's kind of funny that half of each season's drip-fed cars as a seasonal reward are just cars ported (and upscaled without any update to the damn model itself) from older games, while every single car added in DLC is brand new (at least to Horizon).

Curious, eh? Also, funny that you can charge players out the wazoo for new cars, but the online's still barely functional half the time.
Typical corporate greed. I already paid 100$ for the deluxe version. I refuse to buy a single one of the new DLCs.

The game is good. Just with a bit of confusion regarding the future direction. No middling review, so this is a tentative recommendation.

It's hard. You will die a lot.
You will appreciate just how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ easy the job of long range shooting is made with laser rangefinders.
Game's simple, and hasn't changed in a year gameplay-wise. Not entirely sure where they'll take it from here though.

The bones are there for a great time. But it's time to wait for the meat to appear, and it's been quite a while...

No middle opinion, so a tentative recommendation. Physics significantly improved - it's night and day from 2022. Cars haven't driven this well since F1 2017 or 2020. Everything else is cluttered noise, not having the news interviews is a bit of a shame. Wish they'd bring back the news headlines from F1 2012.

Non-DLC owner review.

2.0 seems to have fixed a lot of issues present in previous versions of the game. Still some weird bugs here and there, but it is now at a level that the game should have been at or near-to during launch, in terms of stability.

Writing is inconsistent. Prologue is exceptionally well written, some side quests fit perfectly into questions posed by the wider source material of Cyberpunk, others feel like the filler missions they are, and some others feel arbitrarily written to emphasize an infuriating sense of 'there's no good endings in NC', ignoring perfectly sound lore-friendly logic that would render the choices given the worst possible options.

Overall, a good game. It was never going to live up to the lofty expectations set by the insane marketing, but at least now it can stand on two feet and say it's a serviceable, reasonably fun RPG.

No-brainer if on sale. Would think twice before getting at full price.

Played since the closed test. There is a piece of gold here, but it needs a little polishing still.

Music is stunning. Some gun sounds are reused from Tannenberg - not too much of an issue. They could use a bit of a volume and reverb tweak to sound more forceful, but they're far from the worst gun sounds in a game since, and some sound absolutely fantastic (Mannlicher-Schoenauer).

Maps look amazing. Gamemode can be a little imbalanced in favour of defenders sometimes.

Game will definitely need more maps along the line, or it may go the route of Tannenberg.

AI needs work - it's better than it was in the beta, but still needs tweaking to avoid death trains.

I recommend the game, but there is definite work to be done to ensure it stays.

Let's see if full release changes the issues present throughout EA.

Put simply, take Ace Combat 7, give it a slightly more justifiably warcrimey story, add an element of the guns being an actual viable option versus being a tool to soften up targets/finish them off, and you get PW.

But forget all critical arguments, because you can use an Su-25 with four (yes, FOUR) gun pods. On each wing.

Best part is, when dogfighting the Su-25 is so slow missiles can barely track. Su-25 best dogfighter.
