As a long time Vicky 2 player i was so happy and honestly surprised when Vicky 3 was announced. Sadly i had to refund this mess of a game, let me tell you why.

If you have read the negative reviews, then there is nothing new for me to say. This game pretends to be a deep Victorian age simulator where you control the government right from the top seat of power but in reality you'll feel like a useless middle manager who's decisions and opinions simply do not matter.

The economic system is a complete utter joke. Remeber in Vicky2 where you had to look at your regions RGO's to decide what factories and industries you could best support. Example, if you didn't have any coal producing regions in Vicky 2 you can't just stack coal mines. That system was completely trashed, you can now in Vicky 3 you can spam any factory or industry you want and abuse the hell out of it even if realistically speaking your country shouldn't be able to produce and sustain said industry. All that matters is "X product is in demand" if that rings true you'll make out like a bandit. what a joke.

This just isnt me ranting, another user stated

"Playing as Japan and slowly industrialising and balancing you're economy is crazy fun. But that's completely absent from the majority of play through because you're usually stuck in some massive British market with endless goods for whatever you want. There are game play decisions made that are so baffling I can't tell if its a bug or an intended "feature". Like raising your tax efficiency being a net negative to the budget. Or the fact that major nation statistics like literacy or arable land being hilariously wrong. You know how nations like Japan went to war to acquire resources their home nation couldn't support? Well good news Paradox got all the numbers wrong so you're probably going to be able to spam all the coal, iron, and whatever crops you need regardless of the geographic location."

Paradox, in their infinite wisdom also completely gutted the warfare system, Anyone that says that warfare shouldn't have a place in this game should go read a text book.. there was nothing but constant conflict during the Victorian Era and having a large professional military and professional navy was crucial for major powers to force their will onto their subjects. IE forcing them to trade with them, forcing them to give them better prices etc. If the UK didn't have the largest and best trained navy then they wouldn't have been in the footnotes of history. honestly this war system is a Joke - it's half baked, lazy and begging to be fully fleshed out.

in it's current state do not buy this game, it's a waste of money. the economic system is burried in useless, menus and tabs. Seriously, was anyone really complaining about Vicky 2's ability to just info dump all the required information to the player when needed? everything in Vicky 3 is burried withing tabs upon tabs. Some tabs serve the same purpose as other tabs, causing nothing but confusion.

Also, decisions? , pop up flavour events. newspapers, random events... all gone. This game is so boring and tedious to play. you will get the full experience Vicky 3 has to offer in the first 20-40 minutes. what a sad turn of events..(lol)

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

wait a year or two for paradox to add 100 dollars worth of DLC that will finally make the game playable.
If you have Vicky2, Just install some new mods and you will have a much better time.

If you must play this game, just pirate it. its no where near this disgusting price tag.

Dont even bother buying the game. You'll almost never find a server unless youre willing to wait and keep refreshing the game and even when you do get into a game 8/10 times the connection will fail.

waste of money untill they fix the servers on a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mulitplayer only game.

Great game if you want to slaughter thousands of uncivilized nations. but in all honesty Victoria 2 is a great gateway paradox strategy game and after more of 300 hours of playtime its still very much enjoyable. here are some pros and cons

PROS

  • The game is long. it will take you roughly a good couple of days to finish a game from start to finish.
  • The game forums on paradox's main site are extremly helpful as well as the steam forums, mostly all major issues have Fixs and can be solved easily by search the forums
  • Great mod community. although no more major are really being made Victoria 2 has some spectular mods that make that gives the the game a lot more replay-ability. for example theres the GSG Mod or the Kaiserreich Mod
  • The game is super simple and very easy to pick up and master in about a week's time, this is probably the easiest strategy game that paradox has ever made.

    CONS

    • Victoria 2 can be very unstable, Although the forums have a fix for just about everything it doesnt excuse how many times the game crashed with a long error code that took me a good amount of time to find a fix for.
    • ♥♥♥♥♥♥ multiplayer, Compared to Europa and Hearts Of Iron. the game stutters and pauses a lot more than i would of liked -granted i dont know if this is a common problem because upon searching for a quick fix not to many results came up-
    • It NEEDS mods, the base game is perfectly fine but it gets stale quick, about 100 hours in i already played every single country from start to finish. Victoria does have a lot of great mods like stated before but the game really depends on them after a certain point.

Overall i highly reccomend this game for anyone interested looking for a easy to master but still fun to play strategy game that you'll have no problem logging hundred maybe even thousands of hours into.
