Easily the best VR combat flight sim, arguably up there as one of the greatest combat flight sims ever. It's clear the developer knows what works in VR and what doesn't, and he's crafted an experience that feels realistic yet not overwhelming. DCS, for example, gets this horribly wrong. For some, having hundreds of buttons and switches modeled with labels in some foreign language is a wet dream, and I admit I like flicking levers here and there, but VTOL strikes the perfect balance between fictional and non fictional aircraft controls. When you hit a target or get a kill, it feels like you actually earned it. You press the right buttons and follow procedure. It really doesn't take too long to learn almost every control and weapon type in the game, which is a good thing. Unlike other flight sims where you are forced to spend days if not weeks if not months hunched over an ipad reading instructions for cold starting a 1:1 replica of a real jet, the planes in VTOL are all very intuitive, and can be started quickly but with enough hands on input that it stays interesting. Intuitive is probably the best word to describe this game, and it's everything I wished that DCS could be. Obviously there are some graphical limitations, and compared to other PCVR games, it looks a lot more like a Quest game than I'd like. Don't get me wrong, it's certainly effective enough, and one could argue that simulation eats up a lot of resources, but there ARE performance issues, which makes it hard for me to justify the simplistic cockpit designs. While the game is definitely more complex than something like Ultrawings 2 for the Quest, visually (and even in terms of mission structure) they are not too far apart from eachother, and the performance of that game certainly one ups VTOLVR. I digress, the point of that tangent was that somethings gotta give; the graphics are just too basic to justify the poor performance even on high end machines and the PCVR only limitation. The game is still excellent, and other than those issues it is maybe the most fun you can have in VR. If you like planes, flight, even arcade things like War Thunder or the previously mentioned Ultrawings, you NEED to get this game.

Oh, and lack of HOTAS support sucks. Need an update that allows HOTAS input as well as Quest 2 hand tracking <3

Fun, but gets slow and repetitive quickly. Would've loved to seen VR support, or some more variety in the jobs, but stripping down cars the same, long, tedious way is a real hassle after a while.

With that being said if you're into clicking, taking stuff apart, and cars, I recommend. Hopefully this game will continues getting support.

Really fun game, best online community of ANY flight simulator. Unfortunately, that's the best I can really give it. It does show it's age, feels clunky sometimes and even with a bunch of addons can look (and run) pretty bad. Unless it's on sale, steer clear and save up for X-Plane 11. FS2020 is also looking pretty good, but I would recommend giving it some time to work out it's bugs.

Get this game if you want to fly with others, but avoid it if you're looking for a stable, convincing modern flight sim.

I really enjoy this game. I have played both normally and in VR, and the experience is wonderful in both situations. It's hard for me to play consistently, but there are stretches of time where I will sit down and hunt for pirates or mine goods for hours on end. I will say that to get the most out of this game you NEED a joystick. Start with a xbox/ps4 controller, if you like it, spend an extra 10-30 bucks on a second hand joystick or preferably a HOTAS. Such a game changer, makes it feel that much more like a fleshed out simulator.

However. While I love this game, mining is the real elephant in the room. It's an addiction. There are not that many great ways to get rich in Elite Dangerous, and within a few hours of clever mining I made more money than I have in 50 hours of playing. It's a shame, because the other missions are really fun, but mining is just so incredibly unbalanced.

Regardless, the games awesome. It's free on Epic at this time, but please buy it down the road if you missed out. It's so so worth it. <3

Terrible game. Horrific graphics, clunky controls, lackluster gameplay, useless matchmaking system. Don't waste your time even for memes.
