10/10 - some of the best games ever made… minus Halo 4 - you can (read: should) skip that one.

Early Access Review
I usually don't care about graphics in games, but I honestly despise how this game looks; it's seriously its biggest issue. Its muddy af because everything just blends together making it needlessly harder to see what I'm doing and what's around me, and the UI/HUD is a f'ing disgrace. I'm not an artist by any means, so I can't suggest a fix, but visually this game needs a total redesign; it's never a good thing when a game from 2005 is visually more appealing than your game (BF2).

The AI is pretty decent but the squad mechanic is a pain because you're defaulted to Squad leader every match, and so you keep getting alerts asking for orders.

Aiming is infuriating when you're using the capital ship guns, especially when the AI is moving the ship; this puts you at a severe disadvantage to the AI who seem to have some sort of aiming correction(?).

The gameplay itself can be pretty fun at times. Boarding action is probably my favourite thing to do; destroy an enemy frigate from within. I found the ground warfare to be a bit lame and uninspired if I'm being honest though; it's never really appealed to me but it's not what I bought the game for so I won't delve into it in my review.

Mod support should also have been implemented by now. I'm not sure if it's on the cards, but I know for a fact that as soon as people can start creating their own Star Wars maps/vehicles, this game will sell in big numbers because it's exactly what Battlefront 3 should've been. If they ever add support, I hope they allow creators to modify movement and gun mechanics because they're also pretty clunky.

Overall, AFF is mostly a frustrating experience. The concept is cool; think the original Battlefront games but bigger and with more to do. But the execution just feels too antiquated; I feel as though the game in its current form should have finished development in 2011/12, not still be in early access in 2020.

It's a fantastic looter-shooter, but just be prepared to do a LOT of backtracking, it's really my only gripe with this game.
Sometime's it just feels excessive and unnecessary.

Wow.... what a mess.

Ignoring launch day bugs, because after disabling VSYNC they don't seem to affect me (There's still that F'ing stutter though.) this game feels rushed.

The actual aim of the game is fun, and the developers have clearly adressed problems that arose from JC2 and implemented new features to improve them. The "flow" of the game (if you will) is very enjoyable, and definately something casual gamers (Like myself) will enjoy. There's nothing quite as satisfying as detonating your C4 whilst a train is travelling accross a bridge, then watching the chaos ensue.

However, gamers will definately experience events that either make them scratch their head, or make them want to throw their controller accross the room. To begin with, the enemy anti-aircraft (Manned guns) are WAY too accurate. Even whilst attempting to avoid it in my wingsuit and parachute, they have impossible precision. Considering these guns are placed in the majority of bases that players need to capture, this is something that should be relatively simple to fix, but NEEDS to be adressed in a patch. Also, occassionally whilst attempting to grapple onto an enemy helicopter admist the action of a heated battle, the player will not attach properly and will go into a ragdoll state. Again, this needs to be fixed (Or changed if its meant to be this way. It happens at the worst of times and is infuriating to say the least.) soon. Finally, the destruction of bridges is somewhat... dissapointing. The actual damaging of the bridge is fine, and quite enjoyable/satisfying, but when it comes to the point where the bridge collapses, the player will be dissapointed to learn that practically none of the bridge remains. It is removed either whilst falling or when the player turns away. This is something to improve performance on consoles, not PC. This needs to be changed to a state that when the player leaves the area, the debris despawns. I can't forget to mention that vehicle damage (At least for air vehicles) is pathetic. Its a step back from JC2, as even that game had proper damage modelling, as well as the fact that helicopters could actually survive scraping across the ground for a short period of time.

Also, perhaps the worst thing about this game, is the campaign. Remember all those types of missions you hate? You know, escorting an AI character, protecting an AI character etc.? Well, suffice to say; these are the kinds of missions that fill up the majority of the campaign. It feels lazy, and more than anything, is a chore to play. These missions are already unenjoyable, but with poor AI they are untolerable and will definately cause frustration.

Overall, the game is good. Its obvious that the developers tried to improve the forumla they used for JC2, and for the most part they have. However, bad AI + Lackluster campaign + crappy vehicle damage modelling definately holds the game back. With these features in mind, I rate the game a 7/10, as it can be so much fun, but definately has some major problems which need to be addressed.

Good Game. The AI is well programmed and there is a good mix of diversity between weapons. However, don't expect to be playing 100+ hours on this game, as it, like many AAA title's these days, doesn't have a high replay value.

7/10.
