The game is amazing. In one word: Freedom. Freedom to explore, freedom to choose. Very replayable too!
Don't take my word for it, just look at the hours I've played for the last month since posting this review.

Outstanding multiplayer game for up to 4 people. I have a group of 2 other friends besides myself who play this game twice every week. It's hard to find co-op games for 3 people that consistently keep our interest over a long period of time. Deep Rock Galactic has managed to do that impressively.

Game play is solid, with maps procedurally generated, and can be quite challenging depending upon the complexity and danger level of the missions.

Each class brings with it their own unique way of solving issues. Every class is capable of being played solo, but the game shines when multiple players of different classes work together with synergy.

Overall an outstanding game.Yep, I said it again. Outstanding! Oh no! I said it again!

Great Game!

If I would describe this Visual Novel in one word it would be:

Immersive.

You get a good feel for the characters and their motivations as you play, and thus you begin to take an interest in them, not as a means to complete the story, but rather in the interactions between them and how the story sweeps you into the fervor of the E-sports scene.

Anyways, the game explains a lot of terms that most fans wouldn't know, so there is no danger in being clueless about the game, just enjoy the story as you play through your choices.

Early Access Review
Turn 1: Husband accidentally kills nephew's wife by administering bad medical treatment for illness.
Turn 2: Mother dies
Turn 3: Nephew demands justice for wife's death.
Turn 4: Husband is nerve whipped and falls ill.
Turn 5: War declared on neighboring league, husband is placed in charge of newly annexed system.
Turn 6: Husband fails to quell rebellion, system goes independent and husband executed.

Ah, what a family!!

I bought this game originally because the premise sounded interesting. At first, I could not even get online due to client-server connectivity issues, and uninstalled it for about a month before I came back to it. Upon my return, the client-server issues seemed to have been resolved by the company, and I logged in for a very satisfying MMO experience as a solo player. The game is based upon the astel, (what other mmo's would call pets), and there are different strengths of astels which consume atra points at different levels. (Atra points being the "mana" which allows a summoned astel to remain in play). In combat you can mix and match varying astels and summon and unsummon them in a manner akin to juggling astels, as you manage the atra point costs.

The combat is standard early style MMO, (ie click on target, then cycle through various abilities to reduce the target's hp) and the looting interface can be troublesome unless you obtain a scroll or ring of exploration (which automatically loots defeated targets for you). Dungeons are instanced, and can be repeated after 10 minutes of completing one.

The unfortunate drawback to the game is really not the game itself but rather, as some have pointed out, the customer service of the game provider, which is sparse to non-existant at best. Accordingly, I have not put too much money into the game beyond the initial purchase, but I must admit that if I continue to enjoy the game, then I will support it from time to time.

Still, as a solo player, I am enjoying the time spent playing, and give the game a cautionary thumbs up.

Absolutely an outstanding game!

For those who are hesitant due to lack of English, Worry not! The community has a discord link that has an English translation. (Not always the best grammar, but it's modifiable as well, so you can edit the translations if you want to update it yourself, given some expertise with coding.)

The game is a lifestyle sim of a young Wuxia hero, and plays similarly along the lines of games like Persona, with daily activities, and choices to make during the calendar year. Combat can be difficult or easy depending on your choices and how you utilize tactics. The combat system is hexagonal map turn-based, and battles can be reset from the main menu if you are fairing poorly. Games can be saved at free movement or during hall study intervals, but not during combat or dialogue cut scenes.

The depth, number of martial arts styles and internal cultivation techniques or mantras allows for the player to match their hero to their style of play. The artwork and animations are fantastic, and one can see that a lot of effort and love has gone into this game. Also the soundtrack is outstanding as well.

The one drawback is that the game is still early access, so the content is not finished, but there is definitely a lot of hours of play currently, and I am eagerly awaiting updates.

I've only owned the game for a few days now, but have already accumulated this many hours! Buy this game, support these developers, and gave thanks to the fan group who made the English translation mod possible!

Excellent game, even though the relationship affinity is a bit of a grind. Buy it when it goes on sale. Full price is a bit too much.

As a avid fan of the boardgame, I eagerly awaited this version to come out on steam. I've now played through the campaign twice, and feel assured enough to write a fairly accurate review.

The Pro's:
* The game is beautifully rendered. I just wish their was a screenshot button for some of the rendered scenes. (I had a mech crest a mountain with the sun in the background and it was extremely panoramic, for example)

* The rules are very faithful to the boardgame, so much so that it is frustrating at times when luck doesn't go one's way.

* The Mech Bay and refit options are quite impressive.

* The Argo and slowly improving it over the course of the game.

* The campaign is challenging and fun, although at times it can seem a bit too challenging, until you get the hang of the game system.

The Cons:
* Uneven difficulty of campaign mission ratings (There is one supposedly 2 * campaign mission, that is extremely difficult to finish if you want to get all the mission elements completed. It should be rated at 3* or even 3 and 1/2 *.)

* Initiative does not carry over from turns, so if a mech is knocked down on the last phase of one turn, it can immediately get up in the next turn. I believe it should have the intiative penalty carried over from the phase in which it was applied. This can be beneficial to one's own side, however, so it goes both ways.

* Lack of true portrait customization for other mechwarrior team members, and limited customization at present for your own mechwarrior.

* Lack of ability to determine one's own difficulty levels for accepting missions. Not every mission should involve taking a 3 star or higher mission. Sometimes a milk run can be it's own reward. Where did all the 1* and 2* missions go after the campaign is completed?

No method of fast tracking through the travel cutscenes at present.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overall, I really enjoy the game, but I see limited enjoyment after the campaign is completed, other than continue to improve one's reputation throughout the various successor states. It would be nice if they could add some role playing elements to the game in a DLC where your mech warrior is not always in the cockpit of a mech.

You can at least expect to get the number of hours of enjoyment out of this game that I have, if you enjoy Battletech to begin with.

I really wanted to enjoy this game, but one glaring problem gobsmacked me in the face and it couldn't be avoided.

The game is in 800x600 (or is it even 320X640?) resolution with no options for full screen resizing.

However good the story is, this is a deal breaker for me, even if free.

Now on to the story, the game starts off with interesting premise, but there are glaring typos and grammatical errors which are further distracting. I can understand if English is not a first language for the developers, but that doesn't make it less distracting.

If you are ok with the resolution, and the grammar flaws, then what you get is a typical RPG-maker game set in an interesting steam-punk themed land. For me, it was all too distracting to enjoy, but hey, it's free ^^
