Boggled down a bit by old JRPG mechanics and slow pacing at times, but otherwise a must play masterpiece. Sky SC masquerades as a typical JRPG story featuring a motley group of heroes taking down the big bad, but at its core is really just a simple love story. Considering how this is the first arc of a very long ongoing series of games, I think it's brilliant how they grabbed players into the world with Sky's own unique self-contained plot, while still introducing the audience to the wonderful world of Zemuria.

This game makes me feel like I'm back in high school watching anime under the covers on my tiny iPhone 5 screen on a Monday night. Absolutely love it.

This is pretty much just me going on a nostalgia trip rather than a review, sorry x_x.

This is my favorite game of all time. The emotions that overwhelmed me the first time I played this game are what I long for when I play any other game. They are what I think about when purchasing 80% of the games I purchase. Every now and then a game comes along that provides the same fervent emotions, but never to the extent that Persona 4 captivated me with.

I can very confidently say that my favorite moment playing video games of all time is not some insane final boss fight, or cinematic CGI cutscene, or finally finishing that long 20 hour grind. It is instead something far more mellow... it is the first time Persona 4 gives you complete control of Yu Narukami after class. Despite having played the game about 7 years ago now, I can still see that scene crystal clear. Yu doing his signature stretches, "Your Affection" introducing me to what my Spotify playlist would consist of for the rest of my life (Persona music), and the freedom of being allowed to explore everywhere I wanted. I still remember sitting there in stunned silence as the music looped over and over.

And you know what's crazy?

Unlike other video games those emotions I felt didn't wane, and if anything they grew stronger. The NPCs were all so fun(ky) and enjoyable to talk to, it was cool seeing what all my social link friends were up to every day, and my god do I love every member of the main cast more than I love myself. I could easily continue to go on for pages but I think I'll end here for now.

If you simply couldn't stand the slow pace of Trails in the Sky, then Cold Steel MIGHT be a better entry point into the series since it is somewhat faster and has a more modern look. Though I still wouldn't recommend it because you end up on missing so much of the lore and worldbuilding. Additionally, there are references every now and then that will make no sense without Sky context. But if you really, really can't take the slow pace of Sky (believe me I thought it was absolutely awful at first too), then consider giving Cold Steel a shot.
