My review will be negative until Arrowhead decides to forgo the PSN account linking requirements

UPDATE: Sony has rolled back the changes to link PSN accounts for the game.

I ask everyone that left a negative review please reconsider changing their review to better reflect what you truly feel about the game.

Helldivers 2 is probably the best thing to have happened to gaming in a really long time.

No deplorable monetization
Fun gameplay loop
Consistent updates and new content periodically

The only big con with the game is the bugs that tend to pop up periodically but with the small studio in charge of the game its no surprise that there would be a bit of bugs. Nothing too gamebreaking

Honestly the game is everything I expected so far. Beautiful Spritework, fun gameplay and great H-CGs. The team behind this game truly put a lot of love into it and it shows.

Honestly, it was a good game, but a couple of gameplay updates over the years invalidating the time I put on the lab to learn my BnBs and confirms along with the censorship direction the game devs have taken forces me to not recommend this game.

Early Access Review
Its pretty fun and for 3 dollars an absolute steal in terms of the current content available. The Devs have been making steady updates and adding new stuff with each update, fixing bugs and overall listening to community suggestions in terms of making balance changes.

This game amplified my already existing crippling depression. 10/10 Game of the century.

Oh boy where to start with this hot mess of a game?
Let's start with the gameplay:
Early on your options are VERY VERY limited. You've got your sword slash, a small handgun and your trusty dash when you begin the game. Your sword and handgun deal 1 damage to enemies and your dash is pretty limited when you start the game, you can only do 3 in a row and you get some cooldown, but you cannot chain them yet. When you collect enough yellow squares I'm assuming is the currency of the game you can get more mechanics added into your experience the most important ones in order being a chain dash, the ability to reflect bullets with your sword a reflector shield when you dash, a charge slash (which deals 4 damage), the ability to stab after you dash and an attack while dashing. The first two locked mechanics are a MUST before you reach the first boss. Every other upgrade is pretty much optional, but the fact that two things as important as a good dash and a way to reflect bullets are locked at the beginning of the game is a bit frustrating, specially considering these upgrades require a decent amount of time to obtain.
The grunt enemies in this game have 2 health if they use projectiles and 3 health if they're melee only. Mid tier enemies have from 4-5 health (♥♥♥♥ you carnivorous plants) and there's 1 huge enemy that has 8 health in the last area.
Bosses I do not have an exact number because I truly did not pay attention but I'd say they have around 30 health give or take. The variety of enemies is decent and each area has their own projectile 2 health guy, melee 3 health grunt and your bigger enemies with 4-5 health. Plus a boss at the end. Final area has 4 bosses
Most of the combat is in mobs so if you're not careful you will get gang banged by skeletons a la Dark Souls in the first areas, bosses have patterns which you will have to die a couple of times to figure out but one thing is for sure, all the bosses with the exception of this huge frog move like a monkey on crack cocaine so boss fights are very fast paced and you will die very quickly. Health drops are sparingly scattered around every 2-3 rooms but some rooms have 2-3 health drops so its fine. The way you heal in this game is like a mix of Dark souls with bloodborne, you have your estus which when you use you go into healing animation but they run out and you have to recharge them with health drops. You will die in this game, its innevitable considering how many mobs are thrown at you at a time and as the game progresses you'll also have to deal with things shooting at you while you try to deal with the mob of 7 melee enemies trying to get your drifter booty. The autosave of this game can be your friend or your worst enemy and you can teleport out of an area at any time through your map.
The story:
You're a drifter with an illness scavenging foreign lands to find a cure for your disease... and that's about it with the story, there's truly no other motivations to keep you moving forward. There's this anubis dog that keeps showing up every now and then but his purpose isn't really clear, or maybe I just missed something. There is another drifter that will always be one step ahead of you that provides you with intel of things you need to gather. Oh, did I mention there is no actual dialogue? Most of the exposition will be relayed to you through images which does have its charm but overall it doesn't tell much. One thing is for sure though, there is this one unskippable cutscene the game repeats every now and then that almost had me ALT+F4ing every time I saw it. The ambience of the game is very nice and very well accomplished with the help of the soundtrack. Disasterpiece did a great job at making the environment around you feel immersive
The aesthetics:
Very well done, each area is unique and very well designed, there's a lot of attention to detail and the sprite art is amazing for this.
Final thoughts: Honestly I want to like this game but it was so short, lacking in any sort of motivation other than the "I just want to get it over with" motivation that comes from wanting to beat a game. The massive lack of important options in the beginning of the game bothered me to no avail along with the very terrible choice for an upgrade system which requires you to explore every nook and cranny for them yellow boxes so you can get that VERY NEEDED chain dash. The game is quite linear albeit if you choose to get every single collectible item in an area which will take some time and a lot of backtracking. Which I cannot be bothered to do. The NG+ gives you all the important skills and whatnot but reduces your health to 2 and mind you most bosses deal 2+ damage and there's a couple of enemies that deal that same amount of damage which makes the NG+ reek of artificial difficulty. Honestly the game isn't worth it for its price tag of 18 dollars, I'd wait for a sale to get this one.
